oh, reading the other replies, i also forget sometimes that he gets an apple a day and some pickled onions or a tomato. i am trying to stay away from treats but he likes those and i feel that they must be low fat and low carb so he should be ok
Please stop the pickled onions,,onions are toxic to dogs.0 -
Mine dont have "set" meal times, it varies depending on what I am doing/what they are doing.
Breakfast is 5am - 9am
Lunch is 12pm - 2pm
Dinner is 4pm - 7pm
BUT, some days (in fact a lot of days) they dont get fed at mealtimes, nor do they eat from a bowl, I use their food as part of their training/in kong biscuit balls etc0 -
The devil dog can't go too hungry or she dry barfs with stomach acid, she has a sensitive tummy due to being toy sized and after a horrible bout of gastroenteritis last year.
I give her a little kibble about 9.30 am to keep the dry barfing at bay then she gets the rest after I have mine (she tries to dominate me every now and again so I have to treat her like a big dog). She then gets a home cooked veggie dinner at 4pm followed by a little kibble to clean her teeth. Creating a smaller space between her daytime feeds seems to let her go all evening and night without food and without putting too much pressure on her gut.
I'm sorry to hear about your pup, must be hard to see them going through that type of thing on a chronic basisThe stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
I would leave his first & last meals as they are and gradually (by about 20 mins each day) delay and give slightly more at the 1pm meal and less at the 6pm meal, until he is eventually getting fed at 8, 3 & 10. I presume he'll be getting slightly more at each meal?
My girl is diabetic so has to be fed 12 hours apart (9.40 a.m. & p.m). She tends to get quite hungry in between so she also has 'snacks' of green beans every 4 hours.
HTHHandle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it ....... just pee on it and walk away.0 -
I feed mine 8-9am, 1-2pm, 5.30-6.30pm. Those are pretty rough estimates though, as I will sometimes change meal times to allow for enough rest between walks (I have a breed prone to bloat).
You could try 8-9am, 1-2pm and 6-7pm?0 -
lostinrates yours sound just like our dogs, they too have a night time wee followed by 2 biscuits ( about 9pm) as I go to bed early due to ill health, Blackie the Bedlington terrier x gets very stroppy if she doesn't get a marrobone biscuit as one of hers, the 2 boys don't care what they get as long as they get their 2..
like yours they push their luck every now and then asking to go out too early and then come in expecting the 2 biscuits0 -

My dogs have their last feed as early as possible so they can "empty out" before bed.
First feed about 8am, after which they go back to sleep for about an hour or so, then walks and playtime and probably another snooze when they get back from that.
Then I give their last feed around 4pm, another kip, more walkies (even when it's dark and horrible this time of year) then around 8pm they have a couple of dog biscuits or one of those hide chews to chomp on.
More or less guarantees last poop being about 10.30pm so the little beggars don't get me up in the night...!
Who ever said it's a dog's life? I certainly wouldn't mind coming back as one...all that eating and snoozing...!0 -
Mine have breakfast - sardines or tuna on toast at about 7.00 a.m
4 o'clock they have a scoobysnack like Bonio or those teeth ones forgot what they're called?
Then dinner is about 5 o'clock.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
