Mine are fed in the morning, then have a few titbits during the day, and they're fine and healthy:D

Mine gets fed when I get up at 6 and then again about 4.30 ish to give it time to go down before we go for a walk. Having said that, he tends to naturally break his "meal" up into two segments rather than hoovering it down in one go - so in reality it's more like 6am Breakfast part 1, 10am Breakfast part 2, then 4.30am Dinner part 1 and about 7pm Dinner part 2. His choice if he wants to do it that way and he's fairly consistent about wanting the meal in that kind of pattern.

He might get some of it in a kong if I want him out of mischief and occupied while I do housework or similar though - and we take a corresponding chunk out of his meals if we do that.

My girl is diabetic so has to be fed 12 hours apart (9.40 a.m. & p.m). She tends to get quite hungry in between so she also has 'snacks' of green beans every 4 hours.

Our Tix is diabetic too and gets fed at 6am and 6pm and has a tooth chew at about 11am. If he's a bit 'not with it' he gets some veg at 3pmish and then they (him and our girl Annie) have an 'it's time for bed' treat at 10ish :D

We only have to say 'bedtime' and they are both up the stairs and in their baskets - but it only works at night :rotfl:

We free feed our dog. Even though he's a lab he's not greedy and does well on this. He's very lean and muscular, and although this won't work for alot of dogs works perfectly for him.
    Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
    Debt payments 2012 £433.27
  • Our three, border collie, rotty and jack russell, all have one big bowl of dry food down all the time.

No fights, all very healthy, trim and fit.

I've always fed all my dogs this way and seems to fit thier natural way of feeding.

Mutt's is dictated by her medication, which has to be spread out 3x a day.
So her 2 main meals vary between 7 and 9 am depending on shifts, and 6-7 pm, with a handful of biscuits at 3 ish and 11 ish just to put her drops on. That suits our walks routine and mutt's innards as well, as she is also prone to colitis (although nowhere near as bad as Harley was.)
I'd probably split them fairly evenly, depending on how soon after you think he'll need to go out for the necessary - will he be able to go through the night if the last meal is too early or late? As he's used to late meals though, maybe 8am , 3 and 10 ish which is pretty evenly spaced out.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

No idea i'm afraid, we got her as a 4 month old pup from Dogs Trust who described her as black and hairy!!
She is the most laid back dog ever, but will boss the boys around if need be lol ( her best mate sadly had to be put down in may due to cancer and he was a 50kg Dobi x)
She is 12 in May and really loved the snow, always asking to go out, so she could eat it, normally she is a girl who doesn't like getting her feet wet, takes one look at the wet ground at the back door and turns round and go back in.
    Bless her
