I have just bought this from Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-RDR-HX725-Recorder-160GB-Drive/dp/B000F5W17U/ref=dp_return_1/202-8252841-1610234?ie=UTF8&n=560798&s=electronics
so far no problems with it - except it's a little fiddly setting up the Guide + system but once all installed all seems OK only thing is it hasn't picked up on the new channels which have been launched like Five US etc. It has a nice big hard disk for the money and i've managed to record from my camcorder to the hard disk edit the video then make a dvd with no problems at all.
Other thing is the price has just gone up I paid £227.00 last week!
CC debt at 8/7/13 - £12,186.17
Barclaycard £11,027.58
Halifax £1,158.59

I couldn't recommend anything other than the Panasonic models. We've had ours for about two years now. It has all of the features you're looking for. It's sooooooooooooooooo simple to operate, and the editing options are fantastic.
Record, remove adverts, trim at both ends, then dub to DVD (+R or RAM). Even choose which frame to use as the thumbnail. Choice of menu templates too.
Not the cheapest, but at the time not many offered anything like its specification.0 -

I would strongly second that Panasonic is by far the most reliable and easy to use. I have used plenty of DVD recorders (and good brands like philips, JVC and Sony) and only the panasonic has lasted for more than 2 years now (touch wood) with no faults whatsoever.HalleluiahMan wrote:I couldn't recommend anything other than the Panasonic models. I have had a LiteOn LVW-5025GHC+ since June and I am very pleased with it. This model does everything you want.
Best £150 I have ever spent, and now Currys are selling them for £130 (Argos had them at £200 last Christmas).
The only improvement I can think of would be the facility to record one programme and watch a different recording at the same time. But for most people this should not really be a problem.0 -

As a comparison, I've seen a JVC machine, and the editing on that wasn't in the same league. Whereas the Panasonic could strip the adverts and leave a single "clean"/unbroken programme or film, the JVC would result in umpteen individual portions (i.e. the sections between the ad breaks).
Does that make sense?0 -
Many thanks to Aiadi , Marty999 and HalleluiahMan .
All these comments are VERY helpful.
Please keep your opinions coming folks.Keep smiling!0 -

PANASONIC with their DVD Ram disc system is superb, the disc longevity is 100,000 re-records the down side if any is that you can't lend your family or friends your discs unless they have a DVD Ram machine to play them on. And that has it's big advantages"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
