DVD Recorder - HDD & RW - WHICH ?

Hi,

Anyone have a recommendation please for a DVD Recorder which has:

a) Hard Disc Drive (HDD)
b) Disc recording to PLUS format (ie DVD+R and DVD+RW)
c) DV input on the front (for camcorder leads)
d) Chapter editing, thumbnail titles, splitting and merging of titles.

Other features a bonus but not essential.

Are you able to suggest a best bargain under £250 please?

Cheers, Wilf.

  • We've had a Liteon from Argos for about 6 months now, no complaints or problems with it & has the features you list, less than £200 then, probably cheaper now.

B4UgoZzz...because I had some other stuff to get from ebuyer (which seemed to be the cheapest supplier) I took the plunge and ordered The Liteon HDA740GX having looked at its specification the user manual downloaded from the Liteon web page

    Hi Toonfan,

It does look like a good model, which will meet my needs. Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Liteon's are notoriously unreliable. They seem to pack up just after 12 months! The goodmans of the 21st century. Google 'liteon reliability'

Had a liteon before and had problems with it... It lasted 8 months then stopped reading DVD-R disks. Tried a sony (hard drive kept erasing) then panasonic (DVD Drive died) then philips (Hard drive playback was terrible).... Went back to Liteon and everything has been fine with it.. The early LVW-5045GDL models had unreliable drives in them that caused them to give out easily.

I have experienced more than my fair share of faulty DVD Recorders also... that's why I'm asking for recommendations this time. I have now owned 10 DVD Recorders by Mico, Yamada, Phillips, Chilli and had faults with them all.

The 10 units were bought from Maplin Electronics and Sainsbury's and I have to say the customer service was 100% first class from both companies.

It seems to me that reliability is a major problem with this technology. Or maybe I'm just a lightning conductor!
