I have flowers on my tomatoes.
I'm going to have to go and have a little lie-down to recover from the shock.
My flowers on the toms are ok. I'm still waiting for the first actual tomato though!:(It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Also, do potatoes have to flower?
I also have a conundrum. You may recall that I put the contets of a composter where I ended up planting the beans & peas. However in the compost were potato peelings, which have sprouted. Now I like the idea of free spuds, however they may be adversely affecting the beans & peas. Is there anything I can do? If I move the peas, will they survive? Can I cut back the potato plants?
Help!
Missed the first paragraph.:(
MBE is right, there are quite a few runner beans that have white flowers, and secondly, not all potatoes appear to flower but my earlies have always flowered but over the years I have had main crop which haven't flowered to my knowledge, although they may have just fallen off and I hadn't noticed.0 -
Got any beans yet John?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

chaps, who is judging your bean competition? Do you have rules? Is there a wager? This could get rather interesting...0

The bean competition is between myself and 3 friends. The rules are whoever grows the longest bean by the end of the season wins the pot - £5 in for each entrant.
John is just showing me how it should be done.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

If you want I'll show some to-morrow but only if you promise you wont go off and sulk....
Seriously, I've had little beans for almost 2 weeks now and must have over a hundred now. But don't forget that I've got about 30 canes although 4 were planted later when I'd given loads away and just had these 4 left and just couldn't throw them away.0 -

I've grown runners for a few years now, so the excitement of the first bean isn't the same. It's just the competition ones that count.
So post 'em up! Be proud! I can handle it! :rotfl:
The only really important thing is whether or not I'm beating my mates.
I've told you before - if you can grow a bean over 3' long, then you might just beat me.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Here goes.
