Thomas Cook

Hi,

First post so sorry if I don't set it out as it should be but here goes...

Booked a package holiday to Orlando with Thomas Cook paying a deposit of 750GBP. The deciding factor in going with Thomas Cook was the fact that the legroom on all long haul flights is 33" and my wife and I are taking our children who are going to be 4 and 14 months (and the infant will be on our laps). I was happy with the deposit etc but my mother and father in law told us they may come with us and began looking themselves. They rang another company that could book them on the same flight and informed them that the legroom would be only 29" and there would be no seatback entertainment. I looked everywhere on my booking and could find no mention of this and even pretended to rebook the holiday and could still find no mention.

After speaking to Thomas Cook they informed me that there is link called important information when you are booking and the details are on there. Even after knowing that I took about 10 mins to locate it as the link is minute and only one one page of the holiday details. I am furious at this and want to cancel the holiday but I don't want to lose the deposit as I wouldn't be able to go with that chunk out of my budget. I equally don't want to subject my children to no entertainment and virtually no room on a long flight like that.

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone could help me and tell me if I have any chance of getting my deposit back.

Thanks

the TC long haul fleet consists of old 763 aircraft and some a332,the airbus have 33" pitch and seat back tv's the 763 have 29" and overhead monitors.
there are also 752's in the fleet that do not have entertainment and due to operational reasons can be used on longhaul if required.

no help to you but the long haul offering from TC is nothing short of disgraceful in my opinion the short haul is not great either.
out of the charter airlines thomson have the best with their 763 fleet in actual fact seat pitch is better than VS and BA economy.

have you tried requesting the holiday is cancelled and see what TC say about the deposit??

Can I ask where you got this fact from?
  • Hi,

On the Thomas Cook website I searched for legroom and it said 33" is standard on all long haul flights.
In response to the other question it is booked for the 22nd July this year with the flight out from Manchester at 11am.

    Cheers

When you checked the link did it say the seat pitch was 29 inch and no tv or did you take the word of this other company?

We've just flown to Geneva with TC - very limited leg room - 6ft hubby couldn't wait to get off so I would dread a long haul flight in these seats
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
  • Unfortunately it did say this on the link. I am so irritated because as I said earlier it is so frustrating because the sole reason I booked with TC is the fact that it is standard 33". I rang them and they said that there is nothing they can do. Needless to say they have lost my future business and my mother and father in law's and their family this time around also ( which amounts to about 7/8k ) so it will be their loss in the long term.

If I can ask again, where does it say this on the website? Perhaps you could provide a link?

It's in their standard blurb http://www.thomascook.com/flights/long-haul-flights/
    TC wrote:
Last year Thomas Cook Airlines reduced the number of seats in its longhaul aircraft to give you a full 33 inches of legroom as standard - and that means more legroom, more comfort and even more comfort all the way to your holiday destination. Added to this you’ll also find a range of upgrades and additional items to make your flight extra-special; such as extra legroom seats, executive lounge facilities and champagne & chocolates.

THere is a slight possibility that all may turn out ok for you. As well as the Boeing planes, TC have been using A333 (the 300 series, not the standard TC 200 series planes with 33'' seat pitch) from their Scandanavian operations. It is(was) still configured to have additional legroom in the first 11 rows followed by 29inch seat pitch in economy. Check your tickets ASAP and if it lists the plane as an A333 ring up and pay extra for booking seats in the front 11 rows.
