I was going to make a joke about vowel language - but decided not to.

If that's readable, you must get some horrendous messages...

I loved the one where someone posted on this website pleading for help....the answers came back. 'I would help if I could read your message!'

  • Pink Angel: please PLEASE do not settle for Mr Collins! I went for a dinner date last night and quite frankly apart from the fact that I found him most gentlemanly (did not even walk me to car!) he was SO boring and I decided I would rather a) eat my own head and b) be alone FOREVER than be with him... Mr Darcy IS out there!!!
Any goss anyone? I am now on 4 un successful dates doh!

Thanks for that Ellesbelles, you're probably right :) Sorry about your dinner date, doesn't sound like you had a thrilling time. My last date was DULL ... He kept moaning on and on and on about work, and told me in graphic detail about the three cars he has. He even told me that he covered for a married friend who was having an affair, and gave him lifts to rendevous with his lover!! Then he was surprised that I didn't want to meet him again .... Er, I'd have thought that was obvious?!

    I haven't bothered since.....

Sometimes people forget stuff when they're under stress: Like paragraphs, spelling, punctuation, capitals, letters, their head...

I use punctuation in text messages. That's probably a sign of something.

I met my girlfriend two years ago on a dating website. (match.com)
Through the site I only met one other person, that date went ok, but we wouldn't really have been right for each other so nothing happened from it.
The 2nd person I met was and still is my girlfriend, but I did get quite a few contacts through match - some of these I still talk to own facebook, and they are also in relationships of their own. (my girlfriend also knows about them as I haven't tried to hide this).

Why did she decide to go on the date when she was ready to pull the plug on match?

She says it's because out of all the men on match who contacted her, I was the only one that she felt she could have a normal conversation with, I wasn't rude, smutty (asking what sort of clothes she was wearing etc). Although when we started to message each other more, leading up to out first date we started to flirt more, but still nothing really rude.
The other women I still chat to say the same thing, that I seemed very nice to chat to and didn't make them feel uncomfortable - and I also contacted them when I had been on a couple of dates and felt I was ready to cancel my match subscription. Which was when they asked to be able to stay in touch. May never meet them in person, but we have a good laugh on facebook

  • Well I have made my first steps and signed back up to Plenty off fish, now its time to get picky, no one from miles away, can actually send messages that I understand and not someone who keeps going on about all the extreme they do.

  • Pink Angel: good for you, he sounds awful!!!!!!!!!! However, yesterday went on an AMAZING date - the only tiny niggle thing is that we live 2 hours apart. But...he was lush so worth seeing what happens hmm? Have you tried speed dating?!

  • Heya,

Just found and read this thread - fab idea! I've also just signed up to the Guardian site - bit weirded out by the number of old blokes sending messages (by old, I mean 20 years older than me and explicitly excluded in my profile!), but actually there seem to be some nice blokes on there. I will let you know what happens! :D
