How Do You Get Your Brain To Just Shut Up???? Debt Debt Debt Is All It Says :(

Oh yes. Every spare £1 coin that I have to put in the parking meter/give to OH for bus fare... I'm thinking about debt.
I'm walking round the house valuing everything for ebay prices... thinking what can I get for that one then??? Even things I absolutely love I'm looking at debating how much I can sell it for.
I feel guilty that I've spent £30 over my planned shopping budget when only about £7 of it was on icecream for the step-kids and for OH. I get worried when OH starts talking about taking the kids to the cinema as I know that means another bill is £20 short.
I'm glad it's not just me that can't seem to get away from thinking about the debt.
Edit: and I walk round the house thinking I put that on credit cards and that, and that, wonder if it's anywhere near being paid off yet.Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0 -

I'm the same. I seem to have been in debt all my adult life (I'm 33) and it makes me feel like such an idiot!
Things are looking up though. I've just doubled my hours at work as my son has just started school, and my partner finishes a 3 year accountancy course next year, which means he'll be able to apply for better paid jobs, so I know we'll get out of this black hole eventually!
I think whenever we feel this way we should at least feel good that we found MSE.com and are facing our demons! :T

I find it useful to remind myself about all the little things I am doing everyday. Like daily clicks on cashback sites - it may be only a few pence each time, but each day I know I have made some extra money which will eventually make a difference to my debt. So even on those days when I haven't been able to do a lot - especially if I have had to pay bills, buy petrol etc I can still see a positive step forward. I also keep a free money/savings diary. I write in it all money I have recieved that is 'extra'. So for example I have had over £55 vouchers from lightspeed/pigsback, cash back from switching electricity supplier and will be starting to get monthly cheques soon for cashback sites like freefivers. It is really positive to see it all adding up.
This time of month is hard - the excitement of paying money off your debts has faded, it is still a long time to next payday and by now I have gone through next months budget and money plans so many times I can recite them backwards! So focusing on small things I can do every day helps keep me positive but not too obsessed hopefully!

If I only knew the answer. Since realising that our situation is unlikely to improve within the next 12 mths, my entire days and nights seem to be spent on how much we owe, how much we can pay, when our income will stabilise (i.e we become entitled to some help), what will I do if I have to go to court? etc.
And if it's not that, it's fantasy money miracles. If I won 10k, which debts would I pay off first? Would I pay a bit off of each? If I won 20k etc?
Ah well, that's life.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
so still no miracle cures then
