How Do You Get Your Brain To Just Shut Up???? Debt Debt Debt Is All It Says :(

  • I don't think there is a miracle cure. Although I still have plenty of debt, I don't think about debt debt debt all the time, because at the moment I am clearing it in the way I have planned. Yes, I wish it wasn't there, but knowing it is there keeps me in check on not going back to my pre lightbulb ways of not respecting money. The way I look at it I think of it in terms of money money money that I am responsibly controlling on a day to day to day basis.
If I do have a glitch and feel a bit out of control, or panicky about it, I get my little book out, and a calculator and work over my plan/budget for the next couple of months or different scenarios. My OH always jokes "Here she goes clickty click on the calculator"

The way I see it, as long as you have paid all you are able/need to and on time every month, and you are sticking to your budget, there is no point in worrying about it, because thats not going to make it go away. Only hard work and determination can do that.

Sorry, didn't realise I had waffled so much.
  • haha waffling is all good, i got a christmas bonus off £600 so i treated myself to a new laptop as my computer was 4 years old and about to die on me.... and i think without being able to come on here i would go insane, but i made sure to pay of my £335 a month to my DMP, £100 to my mum and £60 to my sister first so im doing good, gosh thats enough money to have me own flat :( oh well one day eh.

at least im getting there and i have survived for over a year with no cc's or o/d so thats good.

  • So you've paid all you need to, so just relax and forget about it until next months due date. Give yourself a break, you are doing great. (Plus you got yourself a new toy WITH CASH, not any high interest store finance or on credit card.)

I'm the same, i have good months and then there are the bad ones which usually coincide with my SAD, i can sit all day at the desk with scraps of paper with every different possible equation, make 10 different spreadsheets and it changes my situation not a jot:mad: .

I've not been too bad this winter the DMP helps its steady and the debt is going in the right direction. I still have the odd bad day, if i find my thoughts drifting in this direction i try and go for a walk or take a bath with aromatherapy oil, Bach Flower Rescue Remedy is good for my anxiety.

  • mophead - you mention SAD i think i may have that...... im always depressed for christmas, new years and my bday in Feb.

My mate met me in august of last year and said i was happy and bubbly then went all depressed then happy again this summer, and now again kinda depressed :(

it took me a while to realise, it was my OH who told me about my change in personality during winter, when i visited my GP he noticed a pattern of depression in my medical notes.

  • i dont think they would ever notice, i suffer from social phobia as well so i dont really go to doctors cos im too shy so its a viscious cycle and i know that SAD is recognised but i worry that they will think im stupid..... probably why i feel so run down and tried lately, do they give you medication or???

I was offered AD's but for personal reasons i declined them. I want a light box for x-mas but they are about £200 so i'll have to wait till i am DF. At the moment i just try to eat well and take a walk each day around miday or even just walk around the garden with my little one. I know what you mean about GP's etc not believing but this is very common apparently there is a website i can pm you the addy for if you like with lots of info.

  • yes please info sounds good, AD's as in anti depressents maybe i should go on them then...... was on the before and coincidently it was winter hmmmm i did say i wanted to go back on them but then chickened out of going again silly me, maybe i should just go back on them, might not even need to mention SAD then!!! they actually did help me but because i was in debt i couldn't afford to keep taking them :( but i did feel much happier i best ask again.

  • Hi - I think I can help you...

I know what you mean about the constant thoughts going round and round in your head (and I'm a man!)

Luckily my dad put me onto something that really helped. Basically 'worrying' is just a bad habit and counter productive to actually getting things done i.e. imagine if you'd had some brilliant ideas instead of worrying.

Once you realise this internal dialogue for what it is, the ideal way of shutting it up is meditation . I was sceptical at first, but believe me, it really works. I'm no expert in the subject but I'm happy to discuss how I do it
