    Try BBC4.

STOP MURDOCH/SKY/NEWS INTERNATIONAL DICTATING HOW TO RUN THE UK AND THE REST OF THE WORLD

Sky Arts, funded by subscription has few adverts, and none in programmes. Shows Ballet, opera, period drama etc. This Christmas showed The Ballet Nutcracker and a rerun of Oliver twist from the late 90's.

Disney also is funded by subscription, with no adverts.

You have a choice whether or not you wish to pay for the subscription. With the BBC TAX, you have no choice.

BBC, funded by the regressive TV Tax produces enlightening entertainment such as Snog, Marry, Avoid! and Rip Off Britain as entertainment. I would much rather watch my cat chase the neighbours dog.

    No Contest for me.

Perchance OP has something to support their reason why they willingly pay the BBC TAX. Alas, one feels that the blinkered objectives prevent a discussion

Our RT has been a couple of days later than normal in the past few weeks/month or so, but only very late once.
    Normally it's on time.

Freddie, I love your generalisation of the BBC's output (going by program names alone, from BBC3/4 by the looks of it:p), missing out on the fact that iirc snog marry avoid is aimed at a teen audience (hence the title), and missing pretty much everything on BBC 1 and 2, let alone the fact that the BBC "tax" is per household, whilst Sky is per receiver (with secondary receivers costing almost as much as the whole of the LF).

Sky Arts is a good channel for what it is, but it doesn't have much/any scripted programmes and is largely from what I've seen a case of filming existing events which is much cheaper than producing new content specifically for TV.

It's a minor but worthwhile fact that apparently even in households with Sky/Cable BBC 1 and 2 tend to be the most watched pair of channels :)
And that most of the Sky channels are between 80-95% repeats over any given reasonable time period* (with the exception of Sports and news).

*Seriously look at the listings (the RT gave up with marking digital channels with an R when it's a repeat, they instead get NEW for new content**), and consider how much the BBC is costing and how much you're paying for the likes of Sky 1 and Discovery compared to the amount of new content.

**An interesting editorial choice, as it suggests that they save a space in the mag by using a three letter note rather than a single letter one.

No contest for you, possibly, but just as you can pick out some rubbish from the BBC1 schedules, anyone else can pick out rubbish from the Sky schedules - Sky News, to take just one example.

Why not take a look at what's available on BBC4 or BBC2, to take just two channels?

The TV license fee is £12.13 per month, and for that you get around 10 TV channels, several national radio stations and a large number of local radio stations. And, of course, one of the best news websites on the net. How much do you pay Sky?

Murdoch doesn't like that, of course, because he doesn't like competition.

And those of us who don't like to see media tycoons like Murdoch trying to influence the way the country is run don't like Murdoch or his various monopolistic enterprises.

£12.13 per month is a very small price to pay for what the BBC provides - even more so if it stops Murdoch from getting control of the country!

Have you got a suitable programme to compete with the following.

    Christmas day.

    Sky Arts Nutcracker Suite Ballet

ITV Murder on the Orient Express.

BBC ???? Even today myself and otehrs find that the flagship, Dr Who has now become tired and repetative.

Have you any suggestions for the rest of us? None.

From 10! And for the matter, I do not watch Sky News or BBC News Twentybore.

Alas ones signature gives that one away, which Murdoch is that then one is afraid of. Be that the Wapping Liar? Should I look out for Baby Killers in Africa as a just cause next week? What about the banks?

I think you will find that News International do not own Sky TV, nor do they own the Majority of Channels either, nor do they have exclusive Sports coverage.

Typical Guardianista Retort, it is not much to pay. Imagine being in Tesco, sorry the more expensive Co-Op, and at the till, they charged you £5 for the privilige of shopping there. Would you pay?

No, of course, it is Murdoch one is after. Perchance that his empire is ahead of the rest of the populace, providing choice and want. Alas, one has a choice whether to watch or not. With the BBC Regressive Tax, You have to pay.

OK, you just carry on trolling. You just stick to your beloved Sky. That says all we need to know about you.

I shan't be bothering to go through your silly comments to reply to each one, because it just isn't worth the effort. And if you choose to interpret that as some kind of empty success - that's fine by me.

I won't be feeding you any more. dont-feed-troll.jpg

Possibly. But any decent weekend paper costs between £1.50 and £2 (rather more than the Radio Times) and it contains only a fraction of the Radio/TV information that the Radio Times does.

    Horses for courses, I think.

You would be surprised at some of the supplements now you know.

mind you i press the tv guide button on my remote and that tells me everything i need to know without the need for even the Suns telly suplement

I just love it when they resort to inuendo rather then proffer their argument.

Last week RT didn't arrive until Thurs, but back to Tue this week, otherwise no problems so far.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Does anyone know the cheapest way to have a constant subscription to the Radio Times? I want the magazine not the website.

You used to be able to use Tesco Clubcard or Nectar vouchers but not anymore.

    Thanks.
