Will I get banned on eBay?

My Next gift card was for sale on ebay and was reported by Next UK and the ad removed. Violation of intellectual rights etc. I don't understand , its my card right?

Will I get banned if I re-list the item?

Read the terms and conditions the gift card is not for re-sale.

I had to page down 8 times to find this in the terms and conditions on one of their sites.

retailers shouldn't have any right to do this, the government need to tighten up on them.

Basically millions of giftcards go unsued every year, i believe it is in the billions, or at least high hundreds of millions of pounds in money terms.

Thats pure profit for the retailers, someone goes into their store, gives them tens or hundreds of pounds cash for a few pence worth of plastic and they never give that money back or have to part with any stock.

thats why they don't want you selling it to someone who will actually spend it.

but yes, ebay will ban you if you keep trying to relist it.

Couldn't agree more toffe, it's an absolute scandal the way that companies use these gift cards now. In the 'olden' days we got gift vouchers that weren't time-limited. Furthermore, if I spent £9.75 on my £10 Argos gift voucher they gave me the 25p change in cash.

Roll on to nowadays, I actually had a 10p credit put onto a gift card by Argos (as that was my underspend on the £20 gift card I had). This 10p refund also had a use by date (fair enough, about 12 months) but ultimately it never got used as I don't do Argos very often and the card just got lost in the end, it was only 10p afterall.

Now it makes me wonder how many people get gift cards and never get around to using them before the use-by date? Most of us are guilty of buying these gift cards at some time or other purely because it appears that the fact that you went and got them a £10 M&S voucher looks better than just pulling a £10 note out of your back pocket and giving them that when in reality, the cash is better purely because it's not time-limited and can be spent at any store and not just the retailers own!

I completely understand why people buy gift cards (I've done it often) but this time-limited nonsense and not being able to sell them on via the likes of Ebay is disgraceful. I did complain to Argos when I got my 10p refund on a gift card, surprisingly (not), I never got a response.

    Gift cards are idiotic presents.
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!

Thats how I pay mine off sometimes, buying the gift cards off ebay for cheaper than face value, it is money saving :)
  • List the giftcard in a different way, if its for £10 take a picture of a £10 note and in the description say you can only spend this £10 note in Next, i've done this never problem for me.

Terrible bit of advice. If ebay have pulled your listing once they will keep an eye on your listings. If they pull it again your account will really be in risk of suspension.

Ive just heard this on Radio 2, Steve Wright. Its a place to sell/buy unwanted gift vouchers/cards.

It may or may not be useful to you.
  • Thanks for your replies guys

This just gets interesting, just received a message from an agent of Next

Next routinely monitors the EBay site and contacts EBay on a daily basis to remove Gift and Refund Cards from the EBay site.

We would like to advise you that your sale of a Next Gift Card is an infringement of the terms and conditions of use which are detailed on the back of the card, in particular the card is not for re-sale.

This card may be blocked for any future use.

If this card is presented for payment in a Next store or against a Next Directory account, it may be declined.

How is this card going to be blocked?
