I meant swap Micro system sorry

Swap at Micro could be the plug at micro end or micro itself. If working speaker changes it's the plug if not micrp

Working speaker swaps when swap at micro end...:)

    Wrong plugs then?

Assuming the turntable lead is hardwired, swapping the 2 lead inputs going into the preamp should switch the dead speaker if the problem is after the turntable, if it doesn't it may be the turntable or turntable lead

TBH the cable did cost about 80p from amazon...I'll get myself to Maplin tomorrow and get something *cough* a little less money saving :)

if it was a dodgy plug, swapping them around would prove it

The turntable lead is hard wired. Swapping leads at the preamp doesn't switch the speakers, swapping leads at the microsystem does.

Does this mean it is a turntable problem? Hope not...

    turntable ---===== preamp ==== hifi

    1
    2
    3

there are 3 connection points that can be swapped around?

    1 input to preamp
    2 output from preamp
    3 input to hifi

if you swap the left right at any point (one end of the lead at a time), and the speaker failure swaps, you should find the point of failure

Yep, I understand that. Swapping connection points at either 1 or 2 (indicated on your "diagram") does not switch the working speaker. Swapping at point 3 does change working speaker.

certainly sounding like the hifi input assuming you are just flipping left and right, and not swapping the 2 leads around, got another input to try (ie cd)?

no balance/equaliser options on the hifi that only affect the turntable?
