Argos-Item not as described, what can I do?

I recently purchased (27/12/10) a laptop from Argos for £349.99, the spec was what I wanted which included a writable optical DVD drive which was one of the deciding factors for the purchase. Now that I have recieved it I have discovered that it does not have a optical drive even though the argos site describes it as having an optical drive DVD RW+/DVD RW- (read/write). How do I stand? the item is excempt from the 30 day moneyback guarantee and I do like the laptop but need one with an optical drive included, I could purchase an external drive but then why should I when the product I purchased states it has one built in. Also an external drive kind of defeats the purpose of the compactbility of a laptop. I am writing a letter of complaint to Argos but would like to know my rights and what do do next.

Thanks in advance.

No drive at all. Nothing. Apparantley looking at reviews on other sites it does not have a drive and never has had one but the Argos site clearly states that it does have an optical DVD RW+/DVD RW-(read/write) drive.

Do you have an Argos catalogue number for the laptop?

Do you have a copy of the item description? I would suggest that if the spec isn't as per their description, you are within your rights to take it back - certinaly I know someone who returned a laptop (not from Argos mind) because it didn't have an HDMI port (or something like that), which was advertised in the description.

I also returned a mobile handset (bit diff I know) after it was advertised as 3G and when in Japan I found it had not such functionality - after a few calls between the store and mgmt I got it exchanged.

If I were you I'd certainly be off to store complete with item description printed off for a refund.

Get a page print-out/clear screenshot or two NOW. Before you write anymore... NOW! :D

I have various scrren shots of the webpage showing the laptop and full spec, I also have a screenshot of their jargon buster page explaining what an optical drive is.
I will post the cat number model ect when i have resolved the issue as I do not want Argos to read this and change their website jepodising any claim I may have.

    You have the facts!
It states on their site it has an optical drive but the product doesn't. Fact
I am asking where I stand on the matter and what my rights as a consumer are, why you need the cat no, make or model to help me I do not know. Lets just say its a laptop.
After all its not like I am lying about it.

Thanks for the help from the less petty ones.
