Congratulations. Is this your first grandchild, it must be so exciting for you.

Kids outgrow clothes so quickly, maybe something a bit more personal like a keepsake would be nice. When my twin sister and I were born my grandparents bought us tiny silver bracelets and had them engraved with a beautifull message. They also bought red velvet boxes to put them in. When we grew too big to wear them our parents put them into the boxes and gave them to us again when we celebrated our 18th. It is one of my most treasured possessions.

For my brother they bought and engraved a little silver train. He still has it now and it is very important to him too.

Wouldn't take long to get hold of and engrave something like this once the wonderful "Its a boy" or "Its a girl" call comes through.

I hadn't read any of the posts before replying and didn't realise you had already bought the gifts. Hope this reply doesn't offend in any way

Just back from town. I got one of those lovely little towel things you cuddle baby in after the bath and the cutest little babygros...they had images of disney babies so will be fine for a girl or boy. And a shawl, vests and some lovely little teddies from Mothercare. I wanted to get a mobile for over baby's cot but couldn't carry it so had to pass on that.

Chickened out on a gorgeous little pink girlie outfit though. I just KNOW it'd be a boy if I get that and couldn't bear to take it back, it's so sweet.

Just can't wait for this baby!

Your gifts sound really lovely. This is one lucky baby.

Thanks pupsicola. No it's not my first grandchild, I already have two grandsons from my son. But it's the first from my daughter and I think you get the opportunity to be more hands on when it's your daughter's baby than when it's your son's.

My daughter in law's lovely but her own mum was allowed to even be at the birth (I wasn't)...I just think it's lovely when it's your daughter's baby and you can be as close as you want.

Don't know about the baby being lucky...how lucky am I?

My DS who was born last September was 8lb 11oz and was in his newborn size for the first 6 weeks. 0-3 months would have drowned him! I suspect as babies have got bigger, the sizes have also increased since you were a baby. A 7.5 lb er would probably still fit in the "tiny baby" sizes which are available these days, never mind newborn ;)

Maybe! I apparently was a delicate baby, now I'm very much not one of those :P

Mum seems to think I won't need newborn nappies but might want newborn babygros. Its too confusing!
