My daughter never fitted newborn size, she went straight into 0-3 months and all the newborn outfits I was given had to be taken back and exchanged for bigger sizes!Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

I do like the sound of getting a boy and girl outfit and returning the other, this is a fab idea if they don't know the sex as they will probably have nothing in blue or pink!! You could talk to the sales assistants and see if it could be returned / exchanged later (often they are quite understanding). You could do the same with the sizes, so one in newborn and one 0 - 3. Make sure you return the unwanted one to save new mum & dad the hassle!
One thing I saw that was very cute was little furry slipper boots (in John Lewis) they had cream, blue and pink. I thought this might be something no one else would get, mind you not sure they are a necessity!0 -
I think I'll get age 3 months then...and check how long I have to return the wrong sex outfit.0

I'm not buying newborn clothes, pretty sure my baby is going to be bigger than your standard newborn. I certainly didn't fit them and I was only 7lbs 8Money money money.

I'm sure that's what you mean but definitely go for 0 - 3 rather than 3 - 6 months, I'm almost certain baby won't fit 3 - 6 immediately.
I bought a jacket for my friends baby (who I'd seen once already) at a couple of weeks old. I'd bought both newborn and 0 - 3 sizes thinking the 0 - 3 would be best, but when they tried them the 0 - 3 was huge on her. Can you guesstimate expected delivery size of the baby? If both mum and dad are petite or large might give you a better idea what baby will be, but you might find for an outfit in the hospital newborn is the right size.
I am 5'8 and OH is 6'4 so we're not expecting a teeny baby, however I have got a few things in newborn size just in case!!0 -
DS was 7lb 3oz and really dinky so 0-3 months was too big for him, one of the other mums who'd had a whopper donated her newborn-size babygrow to me. Is it worth waiting to find out the weight?
The other thing I was desperate for (and hadn't taken) was scratch mitts.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

My DS who was born last September was 8lb 11oz and was in his newborn size for the first 6 weeks. 0-3 months would have drowned him! I suspect as babies have got bigger, the sizes have also increased since you were a baby. A 7.5 lb er would probably still fit in the "tiny baby" sizes which are available these days, never mind newborn

I'm a new parent (8 weeks now) and loads of people bought us little sleepsuits and vests for our little one. So many that they didnt really stand out amongst the crowd when someone did buy us another one - although each one was much appreciated as you go through loads of them!!!
My parents made a little baby box for our little one. It was a nice peter rabbit box filled with little toys for a newborn (0+ on their boxes) and it had things like little towels, snugs and all kinds of little trinkets and useful items! it meant so much more to us than yet another sleepsuit and it was all neutral. Maybe do something special like that?
Its nice that you're putting so much thought into it. Your daughter will appreciate the effort and thought
Oh and our little one was a big one at 9lb 1 so he was only in newborn sleepsuits for 1 week and now at 8 weeks he's pretty much out of his 0-3 stuff!!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Just back from town. I got one of those lovely little towel things you cuddle baby in after the bath and the cutest little babygros...they had images of disney babies so will be fine for a girl or boy. And a shawl, vests and some lovely little teddies from Mothercare. I wanted to get a mobile for over baby's cot but couldn't carry it so had to pass on that.
Chickened out on a gorgeous little pink girlie outfit though. I just KNOW it'd be a boy if I get that and couldn't bear to take it back, it's so sweet.
Just can't wait for this baby!0
