If he'd have been in the country illegally with a string of previous convictions, and then run over a 12-year old girl whilst disqualified from driving, and then run off and left her to die, he'd have got 4 months -

...but no injury or death in fact ensued in this case.
Thats why he did not get a manslaughter or murder sentence.
Ar you saying it is OK for teenages and young adults to try and derail trains as long as no one is injured.
It's a crime simple as that sorry, teenagers get criminal record everyday. If we make no account for wrong doing law is pointless.0 -
Stupid question...
Throwing a fire extinguisher off a roof is dangerous.
Driving a car at 50 miles and hour in a 30 zone is dangerous.
Difference being, one is socially acceptable.0 -
Could have...could have...
But it didn't.
Do we send people to prison now based on 'could haves'?
Yes the shoe bomber.
Terrorist plots.
Trains being derailed.
Dangerous Driving.
Drink Driving.
etc etc.
Many people get jailed each year for potentially injuring or casusing death.
Accidentally or intentionally.
If there were not laws against it there would be no case and no charges.0 -
Throwing anything is stupid, and I've wondered why more wasn't made of this in the snow...kids throwing snowballs and cars driven by nervous wrecks...an people just pasing them on the pavement.
TBH, I think prison is the wrong sentence and is a bit reactionary, but I think..equally..that we let the little things that could be stopped easily, go too quickly. We don't seem to encourage people to think things through. How could this change?0 -

And car laws are one that need to be brought in line with other laws regarding manslaughter and murder IMHO.
You don't get off a murder charge if you are drunk or do not have a gun licence. So why get off a murder if you drive illegally or are drunk?
The argument is it is not premeditaed, but knowing you should not be driving in the state you are in or not licenced surely makes it premeditated.
If not Manslaughter at least.0 -

It's bigger than that.
It's been said that they want to 'send a message' with this conviction - well the only message they're sending is that the entire legal system has huge disparities within it in terms of sentencing and punishment for different types of individuals and the crimes they have committed.
What if he'd thrown a snowball off a 7th floor roof?0 -
mbga9pfg wrote:No its not. Lets not !!!!!foot here. Personal responsibility is something we have lost. The law, and incarceration, are just as much about deterrent as they are about punishment.
About time lefties !!!!!! and started to realise its about time they started taking responsibility for their own actions, rather than blaming others.
You're clearly confused - saying that it is a shame that someone such as this lad has "ruined" their own life has nothing to do with a failure of anyone to accept personal responsibility for their actions.
The young man in question did take personal responsibility - he went to the police *and* he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Telling others to "!!!!!!" suggests that you perhaps struggle to get your viewpoint across without resorting to rudeness......0
