Hi everyone
I had to send off a new claim for tax credits, I normally recieve 600 a month for living/childcare. However my old claims ended so i have not had a payment since Novemeber. I have had to use my savings for the wedding 1200 in order to live and I am now hoping the money comes through of tax credits ( i have been told i will get a back payment) It has been 2 weeks since I sent of the form and they say it can take up to 3 weeks to go on the system. I am now panicing , i have no savings left and am finding it a struggle to manage my bills. I have paid for all my wedding up to now without going into debt.
I get married in 5 weeks, feel so horrible have been so organized with everything and been very careful with money to pay for it. Feel like my day is ruined and I cant enjoy the run up
The following things still need to be paid for
suits Paid £344.00 outstanding £344 ( Off this my dad is paying £135.00 for half of his suit and my brothers and £50 is being paid by my FIL towards his suit) I have to pay £158.00 not due untill day of pick up .
DJ £25 paid £175 outstanding
Boyfriends wedding ring £300 ( thinking of buying on littlewoods catelogue and then paying back once money comes through)
My shoes £50 ( thinking of buying on littlewoods catelogue and then paying back once money comes through)
my underwear £40 ( thinking of buying on littlewoods catelogue and then paying back once money comes through)
makeup hair £50 paid £100 left
maid of honor dress £85.00
maid of honor shoes £25 ( thinking of buying on littlewoods catelogue and then paying back once money comes through)
nails £20
table centre pieces/decorations £100
registry office £40 paid £90.00 left
Hen stag £100
does anyone have any ideas? I have no credit history so littlewoods is really my only option
Is there anyway tax credits would prioritize my claim? Is there anything I can do to speed it up
thanks

Why are you paying for other people's clothes if you're on benefits?0
-
im not on benefits... I work 16hours a week, I attend full time college doing a health access course, my fiance works 40 hours a week and so i get help from taxcredits to pay nursery fees ect. I live in a private rented house and so the only benefits i recieve are child tax credits and child benefit.0

Could you possibly find cheaper alternatives?
I recently organised my brother's wedding and the bride got her shoes from a charity shop (brand new condition) for a couple of pounds and she had her friend do her hair.
For the table decorations, Ebay was my friend with pull bows at 60p for 6, cake toppers (2 of them) for £15, organza and ribbon for less than a fiver (decorated tables, cakes, a walking stick and a crutch!)
For wedding rings try Argos, our cheap 9ct gold wedding rings cost next to nothing and lasted for 16 years of marriage until we divorced....there is no need to pay £300 for a wedding ring, combined, ours were less than £40!
Hen and stag do...why so much needed? Get the girls round for a bevvie or two on a bring a bottle basis, so much cheaper and much more fun than trailing around trying to find taxis and paying expensive bar prices. The men can do the same....
Underwear - Surely this can be found much cheaper, I know I would be able to do it cheaper. Try Peacocks, Primark etc....may not be the same quality but it is only for one day. In fact, I could get a nice set (including a bra for my bigger sized boobs) for less than £30 in Marks and Spencers. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

The reason I am waiting for tax credits in order to pay for the rest of my wedding is because I have used my savings in replacement of the tax credits in order to live.0 -

Tax credits are benefits. You shouldn't rely on them to pay for things like a wedding.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

As i said earlier I am not using them to pay for my wedding. I had savings from my overtime I have done at my job over the year. I had to use my savings in order to replace the taxcredits I have not recieved the end of october . Therefore the backpayment I will recieve will replace my savings that were not benefits that i used in order to pay nursery fees/ live ect in order to study.0 -

But those are benefits!
Even so, why are you paying for other people's clothes? Over £600 for relative's suits - why?0 -

My point is I am not using the tax credits to pay for my wedding. I used my savings to live off and replace the payments of tax credits I was due ( their mess up ) and so my wedding will be paid for my my overtime and saving money.
Tax credit is NOT a benefit hence why this forum is called benefits & Tax credits not just Benefits. It is essentially a rebate on tax in order to help people on low incomes.
Child benefit is a benefit yes agreed, however again I am not using this to pay for my wedding.
Your don't seem to of added any constructive advice to a post in which I was looking for, instead you seem insistant on a debate?
edit- I chose to pay half towards my dads and father in laws suits as that is how I wanted to spend my saving money. When I decided to do that I was in a better financial situation and the tax credits hadn't messed up my claim. So I thought I would be able to keep my savings for the wedding.0
