Personally I think a small engine is dangerous if you're using the motorway/dual carriageway, the ability to pick up speed quickly when changing lanes or using sliproads is very important.

How can it possibly be " dangerous ", that would imply that every lorry on the road was unsafe.

The only danger is people like the poster behind the wheel.
  • Mine is a VVTI engine!

Maybe it's just me... I would go for a 1.2ltr minimum from my experience.

Tbh I've yet to drive a 1.2 in the competition to the Yaris that is better or more economical. Think some people get carried away with bigger is better......

The nearest I have come was a 1.2 Micra which had it not been for the driving position might have sneaked it.

OK dangerous is the wrong word, or at least the wrong way of looking at it:
"It is easier to put yourself in a safe position with a more powerful engine."

Also, with respect to lorries; people tend to give them space and allow for slow manouvres which they don't do with small hatchbacks, they just beep at you for holding them up.

As for VVTis, I've driven a few and owned a (older) 1.3VVTi Yaris. VVTi isn't magic, there's only so much power or torque that an engine can produce with the fuel used, VVTi just adjusts the torque and power curves so the peak moves as the revs change, it feels more responsive but doesn't give you an average gain over the rev range than another engine (except for older or less well engineered examples). Anyway it's only my opinion; if you're on the motorway you want the biggest engine your budget and maintenance plan will allow, preferably a diesel. If you disagree and don't mind positioning yourself to fit into traffic taking into account the power available then that's up to you.

Nope, minibus (0-60 in about 30 seconds) and a 125 scooter (0-60 in your dreams). Used to have a MKIV Supra TT but I drove that far more sensibly than I did the Yaris!

Dangerous?! So what's your opinion on lorries using the motorway then?
