Yaris - 1l v 1.3l Opinions please!

A mixture of driving really, DH and I share the car, he works about an hour drive away on country and dual carriageway. When I have the car I work in town. We occasionally (1 a year) drive to the other end of the country.
My Mum has had 2 Yaris's which I drive a lot, previously a 1ltr (the old style) and now a 1.3 58 plate.
We are tempted by the older one because the milage is so low (11500).
Also, the 1ltr was previously owned by a corporate hire company, no further info on who it was hired to - do you think that makes any difference?
Thanks:money:
The ultra low mileage would put me off for the reason I stated before. These sort of cars will easily do six figure mileages.
I have a Mazda2 which is a 1.3 (similar in size to a Yaris). It is fine for all types of driving but I can imagine a 1.0 version (there isn't one) would be sluggish and might well be no more economical.0 -

Got to agree. If you'll be doing any sustained high speed work (60-70 mph) then the 1.0 litre will be working harder than a 1.3, which could well translate into reduced fuel economy and greater engine wear. I'd buy the 1.3.Skip dipper and proud....0 -
T spirit trim would be the one to get, you'd want that anyday over basic. 1.0 or 1.3 will depend on what sort of driving you would use the car for.
# Since there's quite a bit of dual carriageway driving then 1.3 is the one to get as others have stated.0 -
based on the type of driving your partner does... go for the 1.3ltr.
Also the 1ltr being ex hire at 7000miles on the clock??? very odd!
As I said my 1ltr has a lot of wear and tear and the fuel econemy isn't as good as it could be. I wouldn't think twice about never buying a 1ltr again!
Plus this being MSE the 1.3ltr is in your budget... you should only pay what you can afford! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I have owned a 1.0L Yaris in the past. Not sure where these claims are coming from, possibly older yaris owners but I found mines was more than capable of matching the speed of other cars on the road.
Was actually amazed at how nippy and speedy it was for a 1.0L. Wouldnt hesitate to buy another and would add that the speed, performance etc I got from it was as good (if not better) than my current 1.4 with far better fuel economy.
Handling etc was all good too. The range of vision is exceptional as well.
Personally on this basis would go for the newer one. Even the basic model has a pretty decent equipment level and by upgrading you are probably only really going to get AC and alloys so unless these are killer for you I would go for the newer one.0 -

Personally I never claimed it couldn't go fast... my current 1ltr Yaris can 'match' the speed of others too.
However, once you get over 50/60mph her rpm's are very high, and the mpg drop very fast! Also as a 1ltr she doesn't excellerate as fast as other cars with bigger engines.
My car it in great condition for her age, and I don't drive like a maniac... but let's be honest a 1ltr engine doesn't perform as well as a larger one.We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Personally I think a small engine is dangerous if you're using the motorway/dual carriageway, the ability to pick up speed quickly when changing lanes or using sliproads is very important.Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
As I said in my view it responds as well as and more economically than the 1.4 engines in 206's, puntos, 1.2 in clios and 1.25 in fords from my personal experience and I have no reason to suggest it wouldnt be the same for the other competition.
The VVTI engines are in my view very good.0 -

Mine is a VVTI engine!
Maybe it's just me... I would go for a 1.2ltr minimum from my experience. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
