Yaris - 1l v 1.3l Opinions please!

I wonder if anyone could offer their opinions?

We are currently looking at 2 used Yaris’s:

· 58 plate, 1Litre (basic model), 7000 miles £6300
· 56 plate, 1.3 Spirit (more extras), 11500 miles £5600

Both are low mileage for their years, we are looking for a reliable car which is cheap to run and have always liked the Yaris and have lots of experience driving one.

Would anyone be able to give some advice on which seems the better buy, is it better to go slightly bigger engine, older car or basic smaller engine that is newer and obviously has about 8 months of warranty left and is more expensive (a little over our budget).

Any opinions would be most gratefully received – thanks.

  • i would pay the extra £700 for the 1 litre as its 2 years younger
  • I have a '55 Reg Yaris with 60,000 miles on the clock... it's a 1ltr!

Given the choice I would never buy a 1ltr again unless I only did town driving. She cannot handle higher speeds as well (she's noisy) and then uses too much petrol if doing motorway driving at over 50mph!

I would go for the 1.3ltr because the smaller engine would turn me off.

Saying that the mileage is very low on the 1ltr (and if you are doing town driving) then it's a very good offer.

If you only have £6k offer then £6k cash if they so no. Stand up and walk away. You can always go back the next day if you still want it.... making the car more affordable if they agree on say £6100... it worked for me... I talked mine down from £8,400 to £7,550 with only £200 of that being from the trade-in value of my old car!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

You don't say what sort of driving you will be doing in it.

You say you have lots of experience of the Yaris. Which models?

I think I might be looking for a 1.3 with rather more miles on it for a cheaper price. 3000 miles a year is 'old biddy 2 miles to the shops and back' territory which is not good for the car.

ETA: Apologies if you are an old biddy who is planning to drive 2 miles to the shops and back.:)

    Just.

Bit to heavy a car for a 1 ltr,1.3 is fine.

A mixture of driving really, DH and I share the car, he works about an hour drive away on country and dual carriageway. When I have the car I work in town. We occasionally (1 a year) drive to the other end of the country.

My Mum has had 2 Yaris's which I drive a lot, previously a 1ltr (the old style) and now a 1.3 58 plate.

We are tempted by the older one because the milage is so low (11500).

Also, the 1ltr was previously owned by a corporate hire company, no further info on who it was hired to - do you think that makes any difference?

    Thanks:money:

    Just.

That would depend on many factors, that the OP hasn't mentioned.

    We all have different requirements.
