Disconnecting the light?.. dismantling the dash.. no thanks!
Ford don't make very good ABS electrical connectors from the Fords that I have had. Jack up each corner in turn, use a stand or if nothing else put the spare wheel under the car on its side) take the wheel off check the sensor wiring, probably will be an inline connector to the car wiring, disconnect and check, clean out, make sure dry and put back together. Sensor may be aimed at magnetic teeth on the hub, clean off with a stiff brush, maybe then some cleaner and water. Do for all 4 and try it again. Used to fix my Granada(s)! (until I next went through a flood )0 -
Failed on 7 things, only one of them is gonna cause me problems
The stupid ABS light stays on which "indicates and ABS fault"
Ive been reading up and hopefully its just the sensors.................Cant register/tax my car 'till this is sorted out
That'll be the light thats been on for some time now but you couldn't be bothered to sort out before the MOT?
Sorry, no sympathy.0 -

I wonder what would happen if the bulb burnt out or became disconnected.............
Runs to cupboard and puts on tight fitting leather flame suit...........
The car must have functioning ABS if it is fitted.
The MOT bloke has a list of cars and the ABS check light needs to be working. When you switch on the ignition for example. It will come on for a set period of time.
Though if you remove the entire ABS system I suppose it would be like a spare tyre situation, you will fail if the spare is flat or damaged, but will pass if it is removed completely.
ABs faults really are a pain in the back side.
Though apparently an illuminated AirBag light is not an MOT fail, that is 2nd hand info so may be wrong but it came from a trusted source so I have no reason to doubt it.0 -
its normally a bit of mud on the ABS sensors0

My girlfriends Focus has the same problem, any chance you could give us an update when you find out what the problem was?
Cheers.
Hi, took it to local garage today and even though they reset it, the light came on again after a bit more driving. So ive left it with them for further investigation, hopefully its something small like the sensors...............0 -

If the light works normally when you start the engine, i.e. comes on with the ignition then goes out after a few seconds, then it should pass the MOT, even if it comes back on after you have driven it. Mine used to do this but the MOT guy said that as long as it hadn't come on by the time he got it on the ramp, it was ok as the only check made is the initial sequence of the light. Details HERE.0 -
Resetting the light via the OBD connector will turn it off for a little while, then it will come straight back on. Ideal if you just want it off to pass the MOT.
Its more than likely going to be the sensor on one of the wheels, or the ABS reluctor ring on the CV joint or the wiring. If its the ring, you can buy new rings but it may be easier to fit a new CV joint (which is what i did on my other halfs car last year).0
