When you crash diet, your body uses up its carbohydrate stores (known as glycogen) in the liver and muscles. Because water is stored with glycogen in the body, you’ll lose weight quickly. However, most of this weight loss will be water and muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat, even when you aren’t doing anything, so losing muscle means your metabolism could slow down.
And as you are losing water (approx 60 - 75% of the human body is water!) your body will be dehydrating.0 -
but thats my point - what is the definition of a crash diet? most people (and ive done it myself) seem to label their first weeks loss as 'fluids'. if they're just cutting gently back, thats not a crash diet and yet the first few week is always a big drop. i am cutting out 817 calories a day from my average calorie burn, this should result in a 2lb loss a week. thats a big drop in calories (from 2230) but is not likely to result in unhealthy loss.0

Well I've been low carbing since July and I've lost 2 stone so far, with another 2 stone to go and my average calorific intake is about 3500 per day!!!! so it kind of blows the 'calorie intake in= exercise out' out of the water - I still do exactly the same amount of exercise - 25 min walk to work and back, plus 3 flights of stairs a couple of times a day (more depending on how many lessons I'm teaching.
I've dropped from a 22 and can get into my size 16 work trousers again, purely from giving up bread, potatoes, cake, pasta and rice - I still eat veggies. It definitely is fat that's going as my muscle tone is showing back and my bingo wings are going - I just need to start toning up my tummy when most of the flab has gone. I can't start yet as when my muscles underneath start to harden up again, they just push the flab out and make me look pregnant!!!
I have less carbs per day than in a single Slimfast shake:rotfl:

Op how did you go at the end of the week ?
You ahd lost 4.5lbs by day three so im intrigued.
I have been on slim fast myself since last Monday. A shake for breakfat , shake for lunch and a proper dinner . Also , 8 big glasses of water every day.
Its now Sunday so has been 6 days and I have lost 10 pounds !The loopy one has gone :j0 -
