I am going 6 days a week on the three shakes a day. On sundays 2 shakes and one meal of the week.
Mad I know, but I would like to research how the body reacts and lose some weight in the process of the experiment.
So started today
Just had my third shake. I will post weight loss next Monday morning.
Headache already though.

Slim fast was great for losing weight until you stop, then bam! all the weight piles back on with extra on top!:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0

I thought the SF plan was 2 shakes a day, 2 snacks a day and one 'well-balanced' meal :question:0

last time i tried slimfast i lasted till lunchtime. i dont know why because in theory it should work as the calories consumed are the same as what you would eat in food0

So you plan on eating just one meal the entire week? The rest will be shakes ?

It depends on your current weight (no, I'm not going to be asking you to post that) as to the amount of calories you should be cutting out at a time. While it may sound reasonable to just limit calorie intake, it is actually a bad idea to reduce the number of calories you intake by a drastic amount in a short space of time. I don't know how many calories are in a Slim Fast shake (200 or something?) but if you normally ingest 1500 calories and now you're on 600 or so you could be doing more damage than good.
Have you consulted a GP about your weight loss? They can recommend a good, safe plan for weight loss or they can refer you to a dietician who can help construct a plan suitable for your health and weight loss goals. Also, I have heard of the Lifestyle Programme which is an NHS funded programme in certain areas (may be nationally, I don't know) who give you your own self-help guru type person for 12 months and get you free access to healthy pursuits such as gyms, walking groups and the like. They can also advise on safe ways to lose weight. I believe you have to have a high BMI or high BP to qualify for this though. But a GP really should be the first port of call.0 -

Bingo! I second that.
It's easy enough once you realise it's just calorie control, so you can substitute the shakes and their 'snacks' with lots of stuff. The hunger goes away after a week or two. And I like the taste of the shakes.
But when you stop...:wall:0 -
When I use slimfast i also have just three shakes or bars a day and the odd bit of fruit. Sometimes i whizz the shake up with a dollop of peanut butter and a banana. Ther will be minimum harm if you only do this for a few days - two weeks at most. I can lose 6 pounds in two weks doing this as it is great for a quick boost.
But as already said, you will put the weight back on pretty much overnight once you stop.0 -
You would probably put on the 'weight' of the normal food you are eating once you stopped Slim Fast, but I can't see a medical reason why you would gain it all back? It's probably the weight of normal food demotivating you and then you end up comfort eating lol, and the cycle continues..
I'll be reading this with interest, I'm crap at dieting and have tried Slim Fast a few times, I actually like them but my vice is snacking.. arghhh!9/70lbs to lose0 -

I believe (although I am neither a doctor nor a nutritionist - just a many time dieter) that the theory behind it is:
You start your 'diet' - first week is mainly water loss, next few weeks your body realises you're not giving it as much as you used to so it starts to use up it's reserves. You lose weight :j
You hit your target weight - whatever it maybe - stop 'dieting' and go back to eating 'normal' food.
Now, presumably, the reason you put on weight in the first place is because the food you were eating was not the 'right' food so not only will you put weight back on because of the type of food you are eating but also because your body goes into panic mode and starts storing 'extra' fat for the next time you have a lean period.
Six months or so later you panic - ah! I've put all that weight back on  - I know! Slim Fast/Tony Ferguson/Celebrity Slim etc worked last time I'll do that again - but this time it takes an extra couple of weeks (and another £40) and in another six months you've put it all back on again plus another couple of pounds .... repeat repeatedly
This is 'yo-yo' dieting and the reason 'diet' companies make so much money. I did it for years
Ultimately we are just animals and our bodies behave as such - the fat molecules in us don't recognise that we were deliberately cutting out food they just know it might happen again so prepare for the worst.
.....It's probably the weight of normal food demotivating you....
If you eat the correct food for your body there shouldn't be any 'weight' to it. Your body will extract what it needs from it - vitamins, fat, nutrients etc and then will .... um ..... 'discard' the restAllowing your weight to remain 'stable'
End of Lecture:o off for a Mince Pie
