It seems there's no help for us young home owners!!

Recently bought my first home back in August 2010.
From day 0 to now, there has been no help/incentives from the government, which I find hard considering the countries "big push" to get younger people like myself on the proiperty ladder. To add insult to injury, my local council (Ipswich Borough) have schemes whereby they'll 'contribute' toward loft insulation etc, having filled out the online forms etc, it transpired they'd 'discount' £23.99 from the £300 cost. BRILLIANT, why the small mount of help I hear you ask, becuase I'm not on any kind of benefits... so a punishment for not already having help?!
All is tight financially, but stable. I have a cousin renting off me, which helps pay the mortgage, but he soon leaving. How do you think is best to find another person, all my close mates have their reasons why they can't. The house has a fair bit of DIY going on so I can't expect a complete stranger to pay good money to live in a half 'ready' house amongst dust etc.
This almost sounds like a rant, which it's not meant to be... but it is frustrating having NO help at all, when there's people of a simialr age to myself getting help left right and centre for accidentally / on purpose getting pregnant!!
Advice ahoy

Stop whining.
Why should you get handouts? The world would be a better place if everyone learnt to stand on their own 2 feet.
Handouts should be reserved for those who genuinely can't fend for themselves.0 -
not sure why you expect to get handouts, you chose to buy a house and now have to pay for it.
I'm not sure where the mentality has come from that expects the government to give handouts for just about everything...........no surprise the nation is in so much debt.
Do people actually consider where the money comes from to provide handouts?

I never got a penny from the Govt, when I was a FTB.
Why do you think you should get £23, let alone more ?
No-one made you buy.Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Well, I'm all for hand-outs for property owners if the State gets a stake when it's sold. Otherwise, you're on your own, pal0

You clearly didn't need any help as you managed to buy your house without any - ergo you don't need any retrospective help or incentives!0 -
State help is a treadmill. All that happens is that house prices go up to absorb the state help - and the money goes to the top of the chain, typically to the family who are selling the house of a dead person. So more help is needed to make up for the help absorbed by the heirs of the dead people. And the First Time Buyers feel good because they are getting help', but in reality the only people who are better off are the heirs of the dead.
Waste of time, this idea, FTB houses always cost the most an FTB can afford.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
No body forced you to buy a house!!!!!!!!!!0

This is the consequence of the last governments spend, spend, spend policy.
Give taxpayer money to all and sundry and make them dependent on the state. Then they believe that's what the government is there for.
I despair!0 -

I have bought my house with the scottish government shared equity scheme. They own 15% of my home which I must pay back within 15 years. If I sell the house before then, they get 15% of the profit - which is only fare. If i sell the house at a loss, they suffer 15% of the loss too (not very fare but works in my favour).
I am with the other posters though. What makes you think the government should help you with your house when they will get diddly squat benefit from it?Official DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts
