  • Cleverclogs, I know exactly what you mean!

My OH dropped a huge bombshell on me last weekend, saying we should have bought a house first before getting married as he thinks that is more important!! We talked things through, and it turns out although that's what he said, it wasn't quite how he meant it, he was just getting concerned about how much the wedding is costing (still under £3000 which I think is pretty good!) and he just keeps thinking that would bring us closer to having a house deposit. But now I feel I can't discuss anything with the wedding without having a huge debate about how much it costs!!

Doesn't help when he suffers from 'selective deafness' (sure this is a man illness, my mum says my dad has it too!), and only hears what he wants. For example, my mum's friend is making our cake, at cost, and my mum is paying for it - which OH has been told at least twice. So when I mentioned phoning her to see when we could meet up to decide what we are having, the repsonse from OH was 'how are we going to pay for that, the car insurance is due next week.' AGH!!

Hi Ladies, not been on here for a while, now its only 15 weeks (OMG!!!!!!) til the big day!

Feel like I am completely un-prepared, the invites wont be ready til mid Feb, we havent made the evening invites yet, I dont know if my dress fits yet cus I havent tried it on since I got it, I have about 100 artificial flower stems to wrap in ribbon, I dont know how I want my hair, we have got to have a pre wedding photo shoot, I havent done a trial run of how I want the tables, I dont even know if I have everything for the tables, I need to make the kids activity bags, I need to buy stuff for the aforementioned bags, I now have my hen wknd to sort, I havent ordered my table plan or place settings yet.

Oh sh*t. I'm never going to be ready!!!!

  • Goodness BLUis, there's things on that list that I haven't even thought about yet!!!

At least it's not just me then B2B! In fact, we had a similar debate a few months ago. I want children (I just turned 30 and all I can hear is tick tick TICK!) but OH said we had to get married first. So we set a date. Then he turned around a few months ago and said we needed a house first. So now we're saving for a deposit. I was seriously p***ed off as I was happy to stay engaged and buy a house before marriage (I've always thought that was more important than getting married) but now my plan for a honeymoon baby has gone out of the window! If we can get a 95% mortgage as first time buyers, and keep saving, we should be able to buy a house before our first anniversary but I swear, if he keeps on with all these annoyingly sensible plans - I'm going to end up pregnant accidentally-on-purpose! Hah! :rotfl:
It's ok, I have told him this and anyway, we'll be married - entrapment no longer counts! :)
  • OMG, are we getting married to the same person?! Ha, ha!

I hear you with the ticking clock - I'm a few years younger (27) but 4 years ago I had to have an emergency op to remove one of my ovaries (had an ovarian cyst size of a melon that should no symptoms til it was about to rupture!), so it's always at the back of my mind that I might loose my other one (especially as I had no symptoms last time til it was too late). And OH doesn't seem to grasp the concept that most people don't fall pregnant straight away and it might take months (or years!).

But OH wants a house first, and for us to enjoy ourselves for a bit too (currently paying of a load of debt as well). Totally get wanting a house first before kids, but it might be a year or two down the line yet, we're hoping to get a 10-15% deposit togther.

I just want eveything NOW! lol! Here's hoping my lottery comes up this weekend!

I just feel that I am running out of time to do everything!

  • it is fantastic to come on this thread and see heaps of replies! doesn't matter that they are becoming more panic then anything else :p

clairus - those are pretty shoes. I haven't started looking for shoes yet. My aunty wants to buy my shoes but I'm having two pairs: a pretty (high) pair for the ceremony and the photos then smaller comfy heels for the dancing so just one for me to buy now.

MrsErtas - yes it is :D we managed not to giggle through it, mostly by not looking at each other.

BLUis - my dress hasn't even been made yet  I have an eye on ebay just in case... other than the invites the rest of your list I haven't even considered yet!

oh and kids is an entirely separate matter....

  • well, plans on our house buying have been forced to take a back seat, as I found out yesterday my job ins't looking too secure at the moment. I work in the arts for a publicly funded organisation. There's nothing been said officially at the moment, it's just a general feeling with cuts being made across the sector, but I've decided to start looking for a new jobs anyway. I've been in this position so many times over the past few years (started on an 18 month contract, still there almost 5 years later), but we are finally in a position to be considering buying a house, and the last thing we want is to buy somewhere and then me to be out of work.

The upside of this is OH isn't so stressy about wedding costs, downside is pushes back starting a family somewhat! But that can wait at the moment, as I want to be settled in a new job before we consider that.

So OH is back on board with the wedding plans, and got all excited last night when I said we can go and view the VW campervan I am having for my wedding car. I kinda took a gamble and paid the deposit without viewing the van, as the guy bought it as a normal camper last year, and it's been in the workshop getting made into a wedding camper and is only back now. He's sent me some pics and it looks so much better on the outside but haven't seen the inside. So we're going to view it next weekend!!:j

Other plans today include ordering invites from ebay, have to confirm the guest list with OH and then get my mum to double check all spellings of names (as we are getting them printed on the invites, and my spelling is terrible!). And I will see what other small bits and pieces I can get done too.

    Hey May peeps!

Hope you're all having a top weekend so far.

Clairus, your glitter shoes are lovely. And they look like they'll be comfy! I've a feeling I'll be desperate to kick mine off as soon as we get to the meal bit. Which reminds me, I must keep an eye out for some flat shoes I can change into...

Cleverclogs and bride2be, your OH rows sound like mine! I guess the wedding stress is starting to build a little.

Our recent tiffs have been about the honeymoon. We're maxed out with wedding saving, but I'd still like to get away somewhere, even if it means **shh** bunging it on a credit card. H2B is getting stressed about what the wedding's costing, and doesn't want to spend even more on a honeymoon. But we've booked two weeks off work! I don't want to be stuck at home all that time! :(

bride2be, sorry to hear that about your job/house-buying situation, though glad your OH is getting back into the swing of wedding things. Hope the VW campervan is as fab as you hope.

BLUis, I'll echo what others have said – I'm not even close to sorting some of the things on your list! I am feeling the panic build a bit myself. Problem is, I have quite a few things either half-done or decided in my head, but I haven't quite finished much as yet! So invites are designed but not printed yet, centrepieces are half bought, BM dresses bought but not their wraps… the list goes on. Really need to get on with it!

One thing I've just added to the list: I want to do something like this (though not in orange) for the children we'll have in the day (probably seven, aged between 2 and 6). Cute, huh?

  • Wow, lots of panics! I was starting to get stressed just reading all of the updates. I am SO behind you lot! Lol!

Well we went and saw 2 venues last week, one on Thursday that was 'ok' but nothing special, but the one we saw on Saturday was amazing. I have completely fallen in love with it and can so see me and Mr Ertas having our reception there! :D We still have one more place to view on Thursday (which is my mum and dad's first choice, it's beautiful!) but all in all, things are looking up! :)

I have decided to do some Save The Date cards - i didnt think it was necessary because its only 4 months away, but we are nowhere near ready for the invitations so we thought this was the best way. One question though, do you only send Save The Date cards to people who are invited to the whole wedding? Thanks. x
  • We only sent Save The Dates to those invited to the whole day, don't know if that's what's normally done or not though!

We are getting there slowly I think. Found the invitations I want on ebay, and will get those ordered on Thu/Fri, once we finalise the guest list this week. I'm going shopping for shoes on Thu with my chief bridesmaid, once we have those we can sort out alterations for the dresses.

Need to organise a visit down to OH parents sometime soon, as I want to get our wedding rings from GoldsmithS to order our rings (using Tesco Clubcard points!), and they stay near our closest store. Also need to visit SIL2B, as she got engaged at the weekend, so excited for her!!
