  • I'm actually thinking of caving in and buying the toys I want for my son's Christmas at 50%.
I'm sure I've seen a few posts on here saying they didn't reduce the toys to 75% last year anyway, is that right?
Am I wrong to cave in to Mr Boots refusal to drop to 75% off!?!?!?!
No it's not right. I got loads of toys last year and the 2 years before that too...it's all I buy except for the odd treat for me.. Really hoping that it starts this Wednesday as I have the day off with no children!! I usually set the alarm clock every hour to see what's happening before going instore for 9

My SIL friend is a supervisor in Boots and she told her that it had been cancelled this year as the 50% Sale was doing so good.

I really hope Head Office are just saying that and will surprise us with the 75% sale. I think it will be a case of the staff arriving in the morning and being told the sale is starting that day.

Yet more items gone out of my basket.
I just want to order now and get it over with!

  • Yet more items are going out of baskets, and I've noticed that if you list all the sale items, about 20% are now out of stock. In fact, several that weren't listed as oos, couldn't be added to my basket, except Strictly!!!

There are probably only half the listed items actually available for purchase, and I reckon once that's dropped to 25%, that's when the sale will start.

So if anyone's sitting up all night and gets bored, try and see how many items you can actually add to your basket!

It seems to me that Boots has become a victim of its own success with this sale. I remember the first year it started - or the first year I went anyway, think it was in about 2002/2003. It was a Saturday afternoon and my mum rang me from town and said get down here now, all the Christmas gifts are down to a quarter price so I legged it down there and got loads of goodies!! Nobody knew about it in advance, it was just a nice surprise. By about 2008 I still didn't know in advance when it would be, but was in Boots so often that I always ended up in there at some point on the first day, not at 9am but late on, and there was still plenty of stock left and it wasn't a scrum or anything.
The following year I knew about it cos my mum overheard 2 SAs saying about the prices that things would be the following day, and then of course by last year I was following the thread on here.
What I mean to say is, that year on year it's become busier and more expected as the word spreads, so we've reached the point where everyone knows about it and is waiting for it. Therefore, if Boots have loads of people refusing to buy stuff at 50% cos they KNOW it will go to 75% off, then the stuff is not going to sell well at 50%. Then Boots will leave the sale a bit longer cos they want to sell more at 50% but people still won't buy it cos they've heard about the 75% sale. It's a vicious circle for Boots now it's well known, and I don't see what they can do to get out of it - I seriously think their sales figures would drop if they stopped doing it, cos lots of people just wouldn't bother with the 50% sale at all.

Sorry for the ramble.... just pondering on what might happen to the aisles and aisles of stuff in my local big Boots, if they didn't do the 75% off.

I too first happened on the 75% sale, in 2002, which I can pinpoint as the year my first grandchild was born, and I think what went wrong was it being posted in the main newsletter last year. If I were in charge of Boots I too would be holding off, partly because people are buying at 50%, and partly out of crossness. They can afford to run the 50% sale for another week or so, then send whatever is left to the clearance shops, as I'd guess that at 75% off it's hardly worth paying staff wages.

I ought to say that with my history of predicting anything, this post will probably guarantee the 75% sale on Friday!
  • i've just had a generic error page and now nothing is coming up when i try to get on the site - anyone else had this problem?

I love this thread, anytime someone has a problem getting on the Boots site they get all excited thinking it may be the pre sale adjustments. Everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for this sale, I just wish they would get on with it and stop messing about! Going to have some v tired, cranky people if they keep us waiting much longer......that would just be irresponsible of Mr Boots, he is supposed to be keeping us healthy after all! :D
