OK, I don't recall reading in my TV handbook that I would need to rearrange my living room in order to see any noticable difference from SD to HD, I certainly don't want to sit that close to my TV.
When you went to buy your tv, you will have picked a suitable size to fit your room, yes?
Just say you didn't go buy a 19" for your main tv did you?
So, because you have bought a tv which you won't see any benefit of HD from, because you sit too far away from it, is nothing to do with HD vs SD.My " comparison " is based, no doubt like yours, on watching the same programme in HD, then SD. As I have said many times, the difference is insignificant IMO.
But sitting double the distance away, and not watching exactly any high end HD stuff from what I can make out.Perhaps my TV is better at displaying SD material than yours.
Perhaps it does, perhaps it doesn't.
But even so, if your TV was better at displaying SD material than mine, then surely that would also be true for HD.0 -
What is that all about? .. we ain't discussing newspapers.
I see now why you can't see HD TV either !
Let me explain - If the Sun prints one word in the largest possible print on a page - that is SD. You can read that from the other side of the room.
If it prints lots of little words (would have to be in the Sun !) on the same page - that is HD (look up the definition, if you don't believe me). You cannot read that from the other side of the room - you have to get a lot closer.
An SD TV is (usually) 720 pixels X 576 pixels = 414,000 pixels
An HD TV is (usually) 1920 pixels X 1080 pixels = 2.1 million pixels
So to see all these extra pixels clearly you need to sit a lot closer.
The other reasons why - "I cant tell the difference between SD & HD" include:
1. Having a Scart lead connecting your HD STB/Sat Rx to the TV.
2. Not actually having an HD TV.
3. Not actually having an HD STB/Sat Rx
4. Watching (eg) BBC on Ch 1 instead of Ch 50 (Freeview Ch nos)
AND - still the most common - sitting too far away !
If you don't want (or can't) sit closer to your TV - (Quote: I certainly don't want to sit that close to my TV) fine, but don't say that HD TV is no good based on your personal circumstances.0 -
The difference is that with the TV you don’t lose any crucial information and the picture still looks sharp. By the way sd is not 720p and broadcast hd is not 1080p0

1. high quality HDMI
2. 200Hz LED full HD
3. Sky 1tb HD box
4. using Sky HD program guide
and finally, is there a possible misselling from Sky (and others) for selling you HD and subscriptions but NOT telling you to get closer to your TV and move your furniture around (something many people don't do)?0 -
and after buying all your HD kit
there is nothing worth watching on the TV

seriously though, Sky/Virgin didn't tell us we'd need to re-arrange the furniture to get a 'better (HD)' viewing experience.0
