i suppose its down to personal choice but i tried it and lasted about a day. I dont like milkshakes which didnt help! i get much better results from scottish slimmers ( a bit like weight watchers) as its 'real' food so your not hungry just eating healthier. joining classes gives support but just as doable using the online forum. good luck!0

Having milkshakes for the next 4 months is nonsense.
Just have a common sense approach, healthier food (in suitable portion sizes) and exercise......0 -
Slimfast is repulsive. My mum tried to get me to eat it after I'd had surgery, to fatten me up. She also tried Complan, which is even worse.
I know quite a few people who have lost weight successfully on the Weight Watchers program. I'd recommend that above drinking repulsive shakes.0 -
Slim Fast is expensive and boring and, all though it does provide all the nutrients you need, IMHO it still leaves you feeling hungry and more likely to snack.
I agree that a slimming club is more likely to work as they teach you healthy food habits rather than a 'calorie controlled quick fix' which you will undo once you reach your goal weight and go back to 'normal' eating.
Slimming clubs can also be expensive (weight watchers monthly pass sems to be the cheapest) but if you are doing it together only one of you needs to actually be a member and you can share the info
Be prepared for him to lose more and faster than you - even if you work harder too - it's one of those really annoying facts of life than men seem to lose weight quicker :rotfl:0 -
I'm successfully losing weight with Slimming World - and it's real food. It is easy to follow and helps you to change your eating habits without banning anything. In the longer term, changing your eating habits to sensible eating is likely to work far better than food substitutes. In addition, you have group and online support. There are also plenty of recipes online - try the SW chips, they're gorgeous!
It costs £9.95 for the first week, then £4.95 a week after that. For me, it is money well spent, as you get several booklets to show you simple recipes, a seven day weight loss plan, etc, as well as group support (and a chance to make new friends). Your weight is never mentioned and remains private between you and the group leader.

I did slim fast for a while but found I was starving a lot of the time and kept getting headaches. Did lose about half a stone in a month or so but put it all straight back on when I stopped it. I used the shakes a lot for breakfast when DD1 was a tiny baby as I was so tired and busy with bottles etc I would get to 11 o'clock in the morning realise I had missed breakfast and reach for the biscuits !! Do really like the taste of the shakes right enough but could never get into the soup.
Have now lost 1.5 stone in about 5 months on slimming world which for me is fantastic (thyroid problems). The plan is really easy once you get used to it and I have also got the totally unexpected benefit that I have made some good friends at the class. Quite a few couples and blokes go to our class so its not just all women. Meals fit in great with the family and have noticed DD1 (now aged 7) has lost a little weight as well. There is a fab thread on these forums with loads of info and recipes etc.0 -
Tried it was starving, pigged out on day 3 ! lol0

Much like any diet it works while you are on the "diet" and you put it on once you go off it. I use slim fast if i have a special event I want to lose a few pounds for but I am aware it is no long term solution. The best thing is that it is calorie controlled and a great quick fix if you can't be bothered weighing and measuring. taste wise i quite like it and it has a good amount of protein (but huge amounts of sugar...). I sometimes will have one of these milkshakes if i have been exercising and need a quick boost.
Unfortunately there is no way yet invented of losing weight which doesn't involve some sort of calorie control and increased exercise.try a long term change of dietary habits if you want to keep the weight off.0 -
Don't even contemplate bothering with Slim Fast!
Hands up, how many women here have at least one ancient unfinished old tin/bottle of the horrible stuff at the back of a cupboard or have had in the last few years?
They taste foul, you'll be starving by the time you're allowed your one meal of the day. You're only supposed to have I think 500/600 calories which is really not enough to fill you up after nothing but grotty milkshakes drunk whilst holding your nose and grimacing all day. I had headaches an no energy at all every time I tried it, and only ever lasted about two or three days before I caved!
Weight watchers did the trick for me, Lost about 3 stone in 5 months and kept it off for nearly 3 years. About a stone has crept back on recently for various reasons (ok, excuses) but I'll just go back to WW and it'll go again.
You have 0 chance of lasting till May on Slim Fast, with WW or similar you'll get yourself into better, healthier habits forever.0 -
I did manage to lose quite a bit of weight on Slimfast, but bad wind problem!!0
