Which is best tariff for data (don't want long contract)?

I have just got my first smartphone, an HTC Wildfire. I'm currently on Virgin's 30 day £10 tariff which doesn't include internet, so I'm looking to change. Could someone advise what would be the best tariff to go on for data? Either PAYG or a 30-day sim-only deal, as I don't want to be tied into a long contract.

I don't really text much so won't need lots of inclusive texts, 100 inclusive minutes per month would be fine for me. Don't want to spend more than £10-£15 a month. I've already looked at Giffgaff but have read poor reviews of their coverage and customer support so I'm not too keen on them.

T-Mobile offer 100 mins, 100 texts and 'Unlimited' internet for £10 per month. Same coverage as you have at the moment (Virgin use T-Mobile's physical network).

on both 3 mobile and virgin mobile PAYG you can buy a data add on for £5 it lasts 30 days and gives you 1GB of data (3 mobile it is 2GB)
so if you top up £10, £5 of that would go on the data add on and the rest can be used on anything else (and carried over to the next month or use it for next months data add on if you dont use any of it)

or on 3 mobile you can top up the £10 and convert it all into 100mins, 500MB and 3000 texts,

or also on 3 you get 150MB for 30 days to use just for topping up.

doing this PAYG method and buying a data add on when you need it, it is much more flexable than any 1 month comtract deal and works out much better value for money.

Virgin PAYG mobile data charged at 30p per day up to 25MB over that and its about £2 per MB.
Max 750 mb per 30 days

try giffgaff - the network runs on O2, so you shouldn't have any coverage issues.
£10 per month currently gets you 250 any network anytime minutes, truly unlimited texts, and truly unlimited internet. It's PAYG monthly, so you don't need to worry about contracts etc.
All of their c/s is done via the web, and there are always plenty of other giffgaf users available to help you if you're stuck with something.
I've been with them for 4 months now, and never had a scrap of bother.
For me - it really is the only way to go for truly unlimited texts and net.

Must agree with Tony.Giffgaff is the best way to go>You can also make payback money for helping out in their forums & recruiting new members etc.I earned £115 for 5 months which is'nt bad-i only topped up with £30 in that time!

This is one of the reasons why I'm not keen on Giffgaff! The forum members get paid for helping and aren't impartial for that reason - if you dare to criticise Giffgaff on the forums then people seem to just ignore you. I've been reading their forums a lot today, there seem to be many problems with coverage, activating sim cards, paying by card, porting numbers etc. People are even threatening to take them to court. I know they're the best value but really not sure about joining them for those reasons. Thanks for the replies though!

Just signed up to tesco £10 30day sim only and the staff in store were really helpful, with good customer service. Their network runs on o2. Anyway you get 500 minutes, unlimited texts (capped at 3000) and unlimited data (capped at 500mb).

This is currently a special offer - it runs out later this month, think the man said 23rd, not 100% sure though but around then. After that it will be £15 a month.

I was with o2 previously and left for this deal - bought a wildfire.

Not had any signal problems at all.

Tesco's online billing system is a lot better than o2's as well.

I'm with Tmobile on their £10 a month Sim only monthly deal - this suited me fine before I got the Smart phone - I do text a lot so am now on the £15 month Sim only deal. Decided to ring them before I set up the phone as know the data charges if it's not on your deal are very steep.

I'm looking to move to Tesco before the deal goes up - not got a phone store nearby but would buy online - trouble is means porting number but gather that is no hassle. I'd have to give a months notice with Tmobile so would end up £10 out of pocket as such whilst I swap it over then saving £5 a month after that.

Not sure if I should stick with tmobile or move to Tesco but have heard good reports of Tesco mobile.

Im with T Mobile £10 to start off, which includes so many mins talk and free 6 months internet use worth £20. This £10 only becomes a monthly cost if you choose to take advantage of free texts for life. I prefer to pay the £10 when i need too, usually lasts me longer than a month and maybe use another fone for texting . My previous phone is with Tesco who give you 5 favourite numbers at 5p per text ( maybe 6p now with the new vat, not sure though ) and 10p calls. The free £20 internet for 6 months might be because i bought a pulse mini off them as my first android phone, maybe need to ask about that as you have a phone already.

Yes ive been with Tesco Mobile for a few years now and have always found them to be good so i ll second that.
