Hi everyone,
I'm a self-employed webdesigner working 35 hours a week (I'm starting and my only income so far is 100 pounds) and my wife works 10 hours a week as a part-time employee.
We started receiving Tax Credits while my wife was already working but I was still looking for a job (not working).
She wants to quit in order to look after our baby, so I will be the only one working (as self-employed). If she quits, will we still continue receiving Tax Credits ?

Yes. But not the child care element. (if you currently receive it)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Ok, I have two more questions then :
1) Why is that ? (yes I'm currently receiving it)
2) What if she becomes self-employed after she quit ?0 -
Why would you need to pay someone to look after your child if there is one parent not working and will be at home all day??? Waste of tax payers money when they should be looking after the child themselves0

That makes sense indeed.
But that does not answer my second question which was : what if she becomes self-employed ?0 -
If your wife only works 10 hours then i don t think you will be getting the child care element as you both have to be working 16hour to get it.
If your wife became self employed and work 16hours then you should get it yes. If your child was being care for by a registered child provider0 -
Actually we are already receiving the child care element despite her working only 10 hours a week.. Our child is not being care for by a registered child provider.
I wish to know what will happen if she quits and starts working full-time as self-employed (just like I am currently) : will there be some change regarding the tax credits we're receiving ? Flowergirls you say yes and Sh1305 said no, I don't know who I should believe !0 -

You shouldn't be receiving the child care element then. There are a few exceptions where one member of a couple doesn't work and they can still receive help with child care.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

You should call them and make sure they have the info correct as both parents should be working 16hours plus to recieve it. Not one over 16 and one under.
And it must be a registered childcare provider. Family etc dont count.
You could find you have a large overpayment to pay back0
