Will I continue receiving Tax Credits if ..

Actually we are already receiving the child care element despite her working only 10 hours a week.. Our child is not being care for by a registered child provider.
I wish to know what will happen if she quits and starts working full-time as self-employed (just like I am currently) : will there be some change regarding the tax credits we're receiving ? Flowergirls you say yes and Sh1305 said no, I don't know who I should believe !
My husband and myself were both self employed and we received the child care element when my daugther was in nursery. But we both had to be working 16hours and they have to be paying child care. That is what it is for.0 -
Uh.. You scare me now !
Here's what the letter says :
Tax credits award for xx/06/2010 to xx/04/2011
Working Tax Credit : £3900
Child Tax Credit : £2800
The very same page accurately sums up my personal circumstances, including the mention that I work 30 hours a week and my wife 10 hours a week.
Then it says, "Qualifying children : 1 under one year old"
And then at the end it says : "You have no qualifying childcare costs..."
Is there a mistake here ?0 -

So you don't receive the childcare element.0 -
Oops I thought 'Child tax credit' refers to the child element, sorry for that.
Ok then so the initial answer of sh1305 was the right one I guess and it was "yes" !
One more thing : would my tax credits still remain unchanged if my wife quits without becoming self-employed, or if she only works 10 hours a week ?
Does anybody know a page where I could find out how to predict that sort of thing ?0 -
Op , i think maybe you are confusing child tax credit (which you do receive) with the childcare element (which you do not receive.)
The childcare element is an extra sum of money which you would receive to pay to a registered child minder for looking after your child whilst you and your wife go out to work. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
I cross posted with you OP....You were confusing the two , just as i thought. The loopy one has gone :j0

Enter your details into HMRC tax credits website . Heres the link http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/ This will give you a figure of what you may be entitled to for the rest of this tax year . Simply divide the amount by 12 to find out your weekly entitlement. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Thanks for this. I went through the calculator and found out that if my wife doesn't work at all (and only me working as self-employed) we would still receive roughly the same amount of tax credits.
Does that result sound normal to you, can I be 100% sure that my wife can actually quit without worrying about a serious reduction of tax credits ?0 -

That sounds a good idea indeed lol. Thanks all for the info0
