BMW 116 MOT question

As far as I am aware it is only necessary to hand that to the customer in the event of a failure.
Who told you that they don't need to access the engine bay?
my mother informed me that the mechanic told her they dont need access to the enging to do the test, im confused getting conflicting stories0 -
A bonnet not opening is grounds (depending on tester) for refusal to test. From the manual...
A proper examination cannot be carried out because of the inability to open any device - e.g. door, tailgate, boot lid, engine cover or fuel cap - designed to be readily opened.0 -
Referring to above list, it infers that the tester DOES need to check under the bonnet - certain of the items to check appear in both listsUnder Bonnet* Vehicle structure ** Power steering components *
Braking systems
* Exhaust system *
* Fuel system *
* Steering & suspension *
Note this is a separate section to the
"Under Vehicle Inspection" which includes* Steering inc. power steering ** Structure, general vehicle condition *
Drive shafts (if applicable)
Front suspension, shock absorbers
Front & rear wheel bearings
Wheels and tyres
Service brake control
Mechanical brake components
Parking brake system,
* exhaust system *
* Fuel tank & fuel system *
Rear suspension inc. shock absorbers
I've seen the bonnet lifted at every test I've had done.
Very unlikely that with the underbody covers on a BMW that ANY of the engine bay is inspectable from underneath.

;);) Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My MOT bloke, been using him for 10 years, always has a nose around under the bonnet, looking for anything loose, anything leaking etc, he also checks the brake fluid level and has a quick check for corrosion around the suspension turrets.
I personally would distrust the validity of an MOT done without checking uner the bonnet, after all just necause the car is a BMW doesn't mean there isn't corrosion around the suspension turret, and since it would probably be difficult if not impossible to check there from the wheelarch due to the splash shield then this is surely an issue.
Though on sublect of the temp probe for the emissions test don't a lot of BMW's have no dipstick these days as the level is monitored by the computer?0
