Size of house two up two down 4m x 4m rooms and a kitchen and bathroom approx 4m x 2m, all rads are stat controlled set to 3 - 4, main stat set to 19 deg, dont have thermal analysis, unit is a heatking 9000i 9Kw output 3kw input rated down to -20 http://www.renewablesireland.com/uploaded_files/File/Heatking_leaflet.pdf
same name but 9kw version for some reason heatking site wont load.
If the room stat is set @ 19c linked to the pump, then you should leave the rad stats open. Most heat pumps work at best efficiency over a minimum flow of 70%, so you could be restricting that with the rad valves.
I could not see an online manual, but did find some specs on the unit which looked ok.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
What you have said there is very correct,
Just to add..
Make sure that you go with the reputable makes and ones that are rated to -15c or below.
Even I can't believe some of the sales spin on some websites......
I'm not saying don't get one of these systems, just be very careful of the make, spec and if the heat load calcs are correct.
Unfortunately, it's common industry practice to undersize systems to "get the job" (as it's cheaper) - be it air to air or air to water. By the time the punter realises it does not work, the contractor has been paid and will then fob you off!
If you get quotes, get like for like and try to have the heat load calcs checked independantly.....;)Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
here's some live data on air to water heat pumps
heat pump live data
Very interesting and the results show that the heat pump is more efficient. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Yep brand new 150L one fitted with the system and a small 3kw boost / unvented heater to help the system when cold.
Have the radiators got bypass valves fitted for when the thermostats turn them down?
Can you give flow and return temperature readings from the pump to the heating system when operating after say 15 mins ?
Is there an alarm log, showing variations? This would normally reset automatically if the fault cleared, so you may not always see it.
Is there a filter in the heat flow line and has it been cleaned?
Can you see how long the electric heater has been operating, and does the system give you the % times for DHW and heating or both operations, as these would help?

A few more questions, if you don't mind.
Have the radiators got bypass valves fitted for when the thermostats turn them down? No
Can you give flow and return temperature readings from the pump to the heating system when operating after say 15 mins ? Outside temp today was 7deg flow temp was 52deg, cant access return temp info.
Is there an alarm log, showing variations? Not that I can access it, the controls for the ashp are sealed inside the unit. This would normally reset automatically if the fault cleared, so you may not always see it.
Is there a filter in the heat flow line and has it been cleaned? Not that I know of or have been shown.
Can you see how long the electric heater has been operating, and does the system give you the % times for DHW and heating or both operations, as these would help? No.
Have you a link to an online manual?

It also gives fault codes, but not the way to access them. I cannot see an internal control panel setup, as these can usually access other menus for fault finding.
How many information buttons have you on the control panel? As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Have just looked at the control unit. If you depress and hold down the PRG button for more than 10 secs, does it take you into an advanced menu?
Please don't try to access this if you are concerned and if you do,make no adjustments. I am just hoping that gets into the faults menu, so we can get a readout. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Thanks for the answers. I have managed to find a basic technical manual and although it is vague, there are a couple of points. On page 15 re radiator valves needing bypasses.

The list of fault codes on p 19 there is a picture of the control / diagnostic panel. The fault codes only come on when there is a fault, the common one is d1 which is defrost, when defrost done it clears itself. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
