Cleanse, tone and moisturise - is it a ploy?

Hi!
I've been using cleanser, toners and moisturising cream for years as mum always used Clinique, so naturally I follwed suit. I used Clinique till a few months ago, then moved onto Decleor Hydra Anti-pollution range.
I now use a cleansing milk, toning water and a lovely moisturiser, but dont do daily as sometimes I just dont have the energy. My skin is VERY dry and thin due to long term steroid use and chemo drug use over the past 4 years.
I think personally, that using relevant products for my age has helped my skin a lot and slow the aging process down. I spend a lot of time in hospital or indoors, so it needs to be hydrated all the time.

:rotfl: ach, that's fine - I'm past the point of using others as excuses!
I've just checked my No7 hot cloth cleanser, and it gives instructions for using the cleanser. It then states to rinse and dry your face and follow with moisturiser - no mention of toner. So perhaps just that individuals perception of skincare and not No7 themselves.

I do think a lot of the whole cleanse, tone and moisturise stuff is bunkum to a) maintain women's insecurity about their appearance and b) keep them buying more stuff. There are products like moisturisers which do improve the condition of the sakin but as soon as one stops using them the skin goes back to its original condition. Far better in my opinion, to leave the skin alone if possible. This obviously isn't necessarily applicable to people with very dry skin etc. but I don't think most people need to moisturise providing they're eating well and drinking plenty of water.
I do agree that the beauty industry tries to make women insecure but I try to filter all of it and make up my own mind. I always cleanse obviously, using whatever method I feel like at the time. I moisturise twice a day every day without fail and my skin always feels better afterwards. I use toner when I feel I need it, if I've run out I just splash with cold water.
I also do all of the stuff you're supposed to - I drink lots of water, get enough sleep (most of the time lol), don't smoke and stay out of the sun. The only thing that does worry me is sugar consumption. I read that sugar can cause cells to break down more quickly and give you saggy skin, that scared me silly (the explanation was more scientific than that obviously)!!! So I really should eat less chocolate.

Hi Geri, do you find the aqueous cream OK, do you use it for anything else other than taking off make up, I have heard its quite good, does it remove eye make up aswell?
I use it for washing my face and occasionally other parts of my body if they are dry - it gets my mascara off fine.0 -
at the moment I use baby wipes to take off eye makeup - tried loads of removers, all irritate my eyes, and for a quick wipe over in the morning
at night I use Lush 9-5 cleanser. Since using this, and Bare Escentuals foundation, my skin looks so much better0 -
I can't use any of the facial wipes as I am allergic to something they put in them. My skin (especially on my face) is very sensitive and so I have to make sure that whenever I buy a new product I do a skin test first. I have even used the Simple ones

Anyway, aside from that I use the Clinique 3-step process and my skin is better than it ever has been. However I just think you should do what suits you - there are so many products out there!0
