Who pays for what?

Hello all

Apologies if this has already been done, but I was just interested in a quick poll of how evenly bills are split between man and wife, i.e. who pays for what? Not everyone has a joint bank account or a dual income, but it's an interesting dynamic.

Just thought I'd throw it out there!

All the bills go from OH's account bar the phone bill which goes from mine. I then put the equivalent amount each month into savings accounts (house deposit). Food shopping is done by whoever pops into the store on the way home from work. Any spare cash we both tend to put into savings without a thought. Don't really think about it to be honest, it works fine for us. We earn about the same (OH earns a bit more than me - about 1K a year more). We don't have joint accounts (that may change once we get married/buy a house). cel x

We put the cost of rent and all the bills together and then work out how much as apercentage of our totally salary each of us earns and then we split the cost of the bills and rent in the same way.

Joint acc for all bills but as I am retired now OH earns double what I get, he pays in 25% more than me... but he does pay more often for things like meals out etc..

My partner and I have a joint account. We put a percentage of our incomes in each month. As she earns less than I do and her income fluctuates a bit she puts a bit less in than me. From that we pay for the main household bills (fuel, council tax, TV licence etc.) and then we pay for anything personal from our own accounts such as mobile phones and the like. When it comes to food, I generally pay for the weekly shop as I get it delivered and then if we're short on anything she will usually pop into Tesco on her way home to pick it up.

As the amount we're currently paying in more than covers the cost of the bills most of the excess is popped into a small, instant access savings account which we use as a holiday fund.
  • We dont split anything. I work part time (look after our daughter the rest of the time), my husband works full time. Both sets of wages go into joint account and everything is paid out of there. We don't see it as 'mine'; and 'his'.

    Same for us :)
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

My partner works and I am a stay at home mum, he has his wages in his account and I have tax credits, he has debts from before we met paid out of his account and gives me the rest to pay the rent etc. My tax credits go on food and other bills. We don't have his and hers money it's basically all put in one pot.
