I need to sit down and do some invitation designs too, I think thats going to be my favourite bit!
    xx

Have to admit it's been my fave bit so far lol but then I've only just scratched the surface... I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy the dress shopping too*. I have been playing around with invite designs (the layout of the wording anyway) for just short of a year lol. I have ordered 5 sheets of red card, 5 sheets of black card, 10 sheets of white card, a strip of ivory ribbon, a strip of red ribbon, and a strip of black ribbon. When I get them I'll have a play around with different layouts (I'm liking the idea of a petal fold, but not sure if that is too 'flowery' lol. or a Gatefold card held together with a ribbon bow.) I don't want it to be too feminine - I'm not really a girlie girl. One of my fave designs so far is a 'word cloud' design I created but not sure if that will still float my boat in another years time. My plan is to create loads of mockups and then present them to MrD to see which one he likes the most (and of course ignore him if he chooses the wrong one lol)

    * The whole dress thing is still relatively new to me. Between May 2009 and January 2010 I successfully lost 3st 12lbs (I was one of Tesco Diets' Slimmer of the Year finalists). I have been maintaining now for a year (albeit putting on a little bit over the summer last year). Since I lost the weight I have a new found love of clothes (and shoes lol I'm still wondering whether I can get away with wearing some irregular choice shoes for the ceremony lol). I've discovered dresses (before the diet I never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever wore a dress). I never thought I'd want to wear a strapless knee length dress on my wedding day - lol I was of the opinion I'd be wearing jeans and a top! Lol. I have told my mum we'll go dress shopping in the Summer holidays - I can't wait for it already!! :j

I'm rambling aren't I! :) The wedding is quickly becoming one of my fave topics lol. Thank god I found this thread so I can share it all with you instead of boring everyone around me!!

Laurarobby - where have you read the bad reviews? Are they from friends/family who have been there? In what capacity? Or are they somewhere on the internet. The reason I write this is because what one person considers to be a dive will be another person's idea of heaven. Also consider how old the reviews are, for example has the place exchanged hands - could the new owners be better etc. I think if I was in a similar situation I'd chat to the venue - tell them what you have heard and give them the opportunity to put your mind at ease... if they don't or can't then yep I'd consider looking for somewhere else.

unfortunatly the venue changed hands and the reviews are since then. some are online and some are from friends.. theyre not all bad but the majority are ant the owner is herd to be a bit dodgy (running off with money etc) :( im really gutted but dont think i can use them now as if it happened it would be my own fault as i knew...

we have a holiday inn which was my 1st choice but when i went for my look round. i made an appt and was sat for 20mins waiting then they couldnt show me the room because there was a meeting in it and they showed me the reception room which i dont know how ud fit 60ppl in never mind 100! it was very dissapointing i was really hoping to go there and have the deal!

i never thought it would be so difficult but i guess when you have a budget and a tight one you have less options :( x

    Welcome more July 2012 brides:D
You lot have been chatty- Its taken me about half an hour to catch up:rotfl:

MrsDrink learning how to scuba dive sounds rather exciting! and going somewhere exotic sounds wonderful:)
Your wedding sounds really MSE, im going to try and be as MSE as i can. Im going to keep looking on ebay anyone know any other good websites?

laurarobby sorry to hear about your venue. Have seen any other places that you could visit. If your heart is saying No then may start looking for another venue. Your honeymoon sound nice as well, having a family does sound prefect:) and Congrats on expecting again. Are you going to find out what you are having? Exciting times for you and your family:)

littlemisspink :jfor booking the photobooth. I do like the idea of having one but im afraid our budget will not be able to stretch far enough!

pinkprincess:jon finding your dress and:jfor it being so MSE!

silaqui i do like the purple and lime green colour but then i am having either purple or lilac for my colours!

No more plans from me. Going to a wedding fair on Sunday so im hoping to book the cars and maybe book appointments for dress shopping:D I cant wait to go dress shopping again but i do keep thinking about the dress i really like.
How much are you all thinking on spending on your honeymoons? I didnt really fancy spending alot - i'll be happy with a week down in devon in a lodge with a hot tub:D
Found out my hotel is having a wedding fair in April so me and OH are planning on going there together. I cant wait.

For valentines day well the weekend after i was planning on surprises OH in spending a night at the hotel but at the moment i cant book just one night i can only book two nights but it will be in a family room and will cost £109 per night. I would have to book a week before as thats when they allow one night booking. But now im scared that when it comes to booking it the room will be gone but then i didnt really want to spend £210!

Anyway i think i have waffled abit sorry!!

laurarobby - that is a shame about your venue - but I agree with Lauralou - if your gut instinct is to change venue then I'd do it. Otherwise you won't be able to relax and enjoy the count down and organising, you'll end up worrying about it and it'll spoil it regardless of whether it'd be okay or not.

At the moment our venue has no central heating (thank god it'll be summer), no carpets, no main bathroom only an ensuite, the gardens are just grass and mud - no flowers. But it's our home and we love it :rotfl::rotfl: Fingers crossed we get it finished before the wedding!

Lauralou - I love spending hours searching the internet for bargains/just the right thing. As I get more organised I'll share websites I've found :) While I love ebay - sometimes other places are cheaper... and I've been amazed at some of the things I've gotten off Amazon's market place recently! Then of course there is always the vouchers and codes section of the MSE forums - never buy anything without searching in there (for example there is a 20% off debenhams plus free postage codes kicking about).

How much will we spend on our honeymoon - god knows - lol I dread to think about it. I guess in theory once we have flights and a hotel booked then we'll be paying £100 or so for diving each day. (I'm hoping no more than that anyway). By that time we should have our own equipment. The learning part of it is going to be the most expensive... lol but I shouldn't really count that should I as it'll be over by October half term! :T Incase you haven't noticed I'm VERY excited! For me the honeymoon is the more exciting part of the wedding - lol and one of the deals we made when he agreed to marry me in the first place... lol get married to me then we'll have a holiday of a lifetime lol. I needed some bargaining power lol (we'd been together 11 years when we got engaged and he was of the whats the point stance).

Oh I haven't already said (as far as I know) but we're doing away with a lot of the formalities of weddings. I'm writing on our invites"no speeches allowed" cause I hate being the centre of attention. We won't be having a sit down meal/head table thing going on - don't want people watching me eat! And we won't be having a first dance - again the idea of being the centre of attention freaks me out. Lol think of the actual ceremony as a 'no frills' affair lol. The party will be a great house party - lol but not a posh fancy wedding party (if that makes sense)... but the honeymoon.... that is going to be the works (well apart from being in a 1/2star hotel etc)

    :) I'm rambling again!

I don't want to spend a lot, but we would both love to go to Cedar Point (massive theme park in America) and a honeymoon seems the most logical time to do it - but it would work out at least £3000 at the most basic. In practice we'll probably not get round to it, I'll get a groupon hotel deal or something lol!

So glad I'm not the only one like this! I am sh***ing it just thinking about having to walk down the aisle let alone doing a first dance or any of that stuff - I've told OH that it's not happening, full stop. He can dance on his own if he's that desperate!
    xx
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o
  • We havent really thought too much about honeymoon budgets so far, but we are hoping for a week in the sun somewhere (we havent had a holiday for a few years now due to buying our house, so will definately be going abroad so somewhere sunny!), but may be somewhere like a Greek Island, will have a look once the prices for our dates are released.

I think we will have the formalities like speech, first dance etc, but I think the speeches will be informal and quick and the first dance wont be to a romantic lovey dovey song (nothing against that, I think its lovely, but it isnt me and my other half), we just need to decide what we will dance to, and if we cant find a song we agree on we wont have a first dance!! Silaqui- I am not looking forward to walking down the aisle either, luckily the aisle isnt very big at all where we are getting married so it shouldnt be too bad- im terrified ill trip on my dress or something!!:rotfl:

LauraLou- Have you got any idea what kind of car you want?

MrsDrink- defiantely share any good websites you find with us, I love a good bargain!

My fave greek island has got to be Kefalonia. We stayed at Lourdas Beach (in the Lourdas Beach appartments - google it they are fabulous). It wasn't a bad price either when we went. We did it through Kosmar who have since gone under. It is a beautiful island - very green and lush. If I hadn't had such a perfect holiday there already I'd be happy to go back... as it is I don't want to ruin that memory.

:rotfl:my mum got married 3years ago she did near enought run down the aisle! She was so nervous that she just pegged it down!:rotfl:

pinkprincess heres what car im hoping to get http://www.barnesweddings.co.uk/Bramwith.php. But my only concern is the company is OH's ex gf uncle (would that bother anyone?) OH does say that the uncle never remembered his name and only met him a few times!!! Also, i wanted a seven seater as my mum and dad do not talk to each other (they will be ok with one another when they have too but i know my mum will get annoyed at my dad on the day as the father of the bride does the most with the bride on the dad and mum will get p!ssed off at him as she has basically brought us up by herself iyswim!-) so then at least mum will feel involved-anyway enough about my famiy!
The Greek island sounds quite nice. I think i may look bit more into Honeymoons. We didnt want to spend to much as we are paying wedding as well as trying to save for a house!

Laurarobby are we allowed to know what you are having when you find out? What does your OH think you going to have?

Im just really scared that im going to cry when we get married!!:rotfl:
