FutureCooper - tbh, I prefer the jewellery that you like (first link) - the pieces that your BM prefers are a bit too chunky! Just my very humble opinion though :o:o

Also, I love your necklace, how gorgeous :) xxx

this is the style i like for my BM although she has said she quite fancies a chunkier version like this below:

I am going for a single purple glitter bead like in the first link on a slim silver chain so that it sits close to my neck and doesnt hang to low and then the matching earrings. I have decided against a bracelet, for now!, as i am really worried that anything i might wear around my wrist might catch on my tulle skirt. However i might change my mind . . . . i usually do. Just got to plan when i can get over again to buy/order them.

try this link - its a daintier version of the one i have seen. I would want it all purple with a cream strap in stead of the black in the picture. Evan a pink might be nice, they will make them for me to any colour way i choose.

Natalie - well done on sorting the honeymoon insurance! We haven't even sorted our mini moon yet... still discussing with my parents re dates and where to go...

Emma- I've always wanted to have a veil but after trying a few on, well I don't think it's for me! But I'm not giving up entirely just yet... I think a 'bubble veil' may just suit me as it adds a bit of height and it looks kinda fun! plus the wedding magazines (I know... not very MSE of me )are all saying that it's all the rage in 2011/12!

Wanchai - that's really good that your dress is sorted, pics please!

Minor updates from me - I had another go (a much better attempt I believe) at my bouquet and would love to have your thoughts! smoonbeam.blogspot.com

Also found some invites that we loved! and set up a wedding website so we don't have to worry about including lots of lots of inserts in the invites.

And re the issue with the reception venue changing hands - thank you all for your help. I have emailed them and obtained confirmation in writing that everything will go ahead :j Feel a lot less stressed now!

    Hi wxy

Sadly I'm not the one who's sorted with a dress lol! :rotfl:

Can't see the bouquet pics, damn computer!!!

    What's a bubble veil??

I have limited myself to a total spend of £25 on wedding mags plus have inherited a few from friends :) they are great for inspiration but this board is even better!!! :D

    That's great about your venue!

What wedding website did you use? So exciting!! Although some of our older guests are not very tech savvy so it may be a waste for us to do one :o

I LOVE that bracelet Melanie and your necklace is lovely!!

wxy (sorry forgotten if you've told us your real name) I love the rose bouquet!! Actually I like all of this round of attempts - I think they are better than your first attempt... they look more like a proper bouquet if that makes sense :)

I'm starting to think about bridesmaid dresses. I am having one older one younger one but struggling to find dresses the same style if you know what I mean.have seen the bhs ones but quality felt a bit rubbish and dress shop ones are so expensive. Would it look rubbish if one was a dark purple shade and the other light?
  • Hi ladies!! Thank-you for adding me to the date list at the front of the forum - kindof exciting to see it there! (Cheesy I know!!)

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the general procedure is for booking honeymoons and using passports is for your maiden/married names? I heard that you can have a passport made up 'ahead of time' in your married name which will be kinda 'activated' when you actually get married... is that true? Cus one travel agent we spoke to advised us just to book tickets etc in maiden name and then sort out names when we got back... we are having a civil ceremony if that makes any difference?! Thanks all!! Xx:T

pbny - I know Emma on here has an older and a younger bridesmaid so I'm sure she'll be able to advise about finding a dress suitable for both. But in the mean time I personally don't think there is anything wrong with having different shades - it is your wedding and you should do what you would like... BUT that being said I know if it was my bridemaids I would want them to be the same colour (infact I want my balloons to match my invites - but they don't and I'm trying to come to terms with this lol).

chezabelle - yes that is true - you can get a passport in your married name that becomes activated on your wedding day. You fill out a normal passport application form (and pay the price of a new passport), and a form that your registrar (or vicar??) signs to say that they have agreed to marry you on that date. You send it all off (I can't remember how far in advance you can do it - I'm sending mine off during Easter 2012), and then your new passport will come in your married name. *If* for any reason you don't get married on that day the registrar just sends their part of the form to the passport agency to say the marriage didn't happen and therefore your passport is invalid. You can get all you need from:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Applyingforyourfirstadultpassport/DG_174104
Towards the bottom of the page.
The reason you're getting conflicting advice is - it doesn't actually matter whether your documents (flight details etc) are in your legal name - as long as they match that of your passport. Some people will find it easier to book everything in their maiden name and deal with it when they get back. Some aren't changing their passport simply because they have so long left on their current one and you don't get those years added to your new passport. Others, like me, however can't wait to travel in their new married name. While yes you can argue it's a faff to do, my view is it is one thing I can get done ahead of time and it's less to worry about after the wedding - when I'll have to change my name on everything else, and write thank you cards etc. :)
    Hope that helps!!
  • Ive booked the honeymoon in my married name, but mainly because my passport has expired and we wont be going away between now and then. It did feel so nice and exciting booking it in my married name!.

phny- I think different coloured dresses could actually look really good, but I think they need to be contrasting and very different shades. I have a 12 year old and 30 year old bridesmaid and I have got them matching dresses, I am debating getting 12 year old a little shrug or something but will see closer to the time. My 12 year bridesmaid it quite tall (well shes over 5 foot so it taller than me:rotfl:) and can wear ladies sizes so it wasnt too bad.

Not at all - I've seen this before at weddings and it looked fab!!! :D Our wedding is going to be very vintage and shabby chic and I don't mind if things don't match exactly as long as they fit with 'look' that we're going for.

chezabelle - we are booking the honeymoon in our own names and sorting the legal stuff out afterwards!!! Anyway, I am still debating whether or not to take OH's name :)
