Many cyclists also run cars my house have two. If I'm and forced into registration and some form of tax dont ever expect to do 60mph on any dual carraige way i'm on because I wont feel then need to be courteuos(?) anymore as i'll be 'paying' so I wont feel the need to use unmaintained cycle paths .:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0

why its how most motorists think like the one that saw me last week and assumed I was doing 6mph and pulled out on me when I had right of way on a round about but the silly cow thought it was ok to do it in her couple of tons of a metal box.:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0

I hope you have an Air Zound and gave her a blast. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

As pointed out in post no. 169, motorists are not paying their way:
Motoring taxation: £46 billion / year (including fuel duty, VED, VAT and business motoring taxes)
Total external costs of road transport: £70 - 95 billion per year
What exactly are cyclists freeloading?
Should a HGV driver have less respect for you on the road (when driving a car) because they pay more in fuel duty, VED etc?0 -

Did I say they were paying for the road? No, I said they were paying to use the road - can you deny that?
Cyclists do not pay to use the road - can you deny that?
Therefore cyclists are !!!!!!!!!!s on roads that other pay to use.0 -

It's not really a fair comparison. The direct expenditure of motoring was actually quoted as 20.6 billion... less than half the revenue collected.
The 70 - 95 billion figure was and estimate by the Campaign for Better Transport and includes the costs of congestion and loss of tranquility etc.
What would be the total external cost to the country if there was no motor transport? I'm pretty certain that it would be a lot more than 95 billion. In fact, I suspect the country would be brought to its knees within weeks... bicycles or no bicycles.0 -

All taxpayers pay to use the roads (and pavements, schools, hospitals, etc.)
It's just that the road users who create more pollution and cause more wear and tear are expected to pay a little extra to offset the costs of the damage they do.
All perfectly fair and equitable. Therefore cyclists are !!!!!!!!!!s on roads that other pay to use. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Can you say where the £20.6 billion figure comes from? - could find no reference to it.
The total external costs of road transport figure (£70-95 billion) was drawn from government research. The point being made was that motoring taxation does not pay for the total costs of road use: it has to come from general taxation i.e. everyone who pays taxes.
I don't think that anyone is suggesting that all road transport should cease, just that we should be honest about the cost of it.0 -

Harry, by your utterly !!!!!! and bizarrely twisted logic, anyone not in a tax paying vehicle whilst upon the tarmac isn't actually paying to use the road - so I assume you think pedestrians also haven't paid to use the road and are therefore excluded from crossing it? So following your own logic, naturally you never cross roads on foot at any stage as you haven't paid to use them?
Seriously, do you have any idea how ridiculous your arguments are and how utterly, utterly mental you sound?
I'll go over it one more time, very simply. I pay road tax on my vehicle, council tax on my property and all other applicable taxes. From this big pot of cash comes the money to maintain the highways. Ergo, I have paid into this pot. Therefore, regardless of my chosen mode of transportation I have contributed to the upkeep of the roads in some fashion and therefore have as much right to walk on it, lie on it, dance on it, drive on it and, heaven forfend, cycle on it as any other nutjob like yourself.
Get over it.0
