car damaged in car park

Many moons ago I was sat on the bus heading for work.
Every day the bus passed a local Robin dealer.
The previous night had been particularly windy and every car on the forecourt had rolled!
If only camera phones had existed back then. Sorry OP, but that WAS funny (unless you owned the dealership).0 -
you have his details now OP, i would still report it to the police as its still damaged caused by vandals, even if its not directly aimed at your car, its still damage caused by vandals. if this has been going on for sometime and as you said maybe prompted by a certain program that was aired a quite a while back surely someone had noticed this robin being used as a bowling ball and reported to the police? them things make a massive noise being rolled i seen the program (and no i have an alliby to where i was the night that reliant got rolled :P) and boy does it make a noise.
but still contact the owner, if i was him i'd like to know if anyones car had been damaged and going to make a claim, it could possibly strenghen a case if a arrest has been made! 1. count of criminal damage better if there were 2 counts of criminal damage, and eventhough its not his fault this happened and feel for you both you insurers should come 50/50 with repairs.0 -

Exactly the same as any other car owner would be to find their car the same - mortified, upset and distressed by it and facing weeks of massive disruption and personal cost.
I'm glad you manage to find humour out of it.

Well, I don't often agree with you, but this time I do.0 -
Your main problem is you have no proof the owner of the robin damaged your car. If he say's it was not me, you are wasting your time, Paint or damage to your car does not prove he did it. He may even claim you rolled his car, you will have said you were next to him, but he would have the same proof as you NONE. Without a witness or video you will lose your no claims as soon as the claim is registered, unless he is very nice and says i hit your car, but if he was going to do that i think he would have left a note.:money:0

Unfortunately, I would think you have to claim off your own insurance if it's worth it. Unless you have a protected NCB, then your premiums will go up as well as the cost of repair. Even with protected NCB, your premium will increase after a claim. My brother had his car "keyed" and claimed off his insurance. Premium went up the following year because he had claimed. When he asked why, as he had protected NCB, the insurance co just said "you should see the premium without the no claims bonus!"

Valid points being raised,
You should tell your insurer there has been an incident, however, this will not be a claim on OPs policy so I don't see why it should affect OP's no claims. But maybe others know something I don't.
The OPs car was fine when left parked and remained stationary. At some point after that, the Robin collided with the OPs car the mechanics of how that happened are irrelevant. AFAIC that's 100% Robin insurers liable for resultant damage. But you might want to wait and get a few other opinions on that before you claim.... Assuming that making a claim can affect your No claims on your policy.
You could put a note on the Robins windscreen asking him to contact you.
Is your paint on the robin?
Have you photo'd the robin at the point of impact with your car?
Is the robin badly damaged?
Aren't robins made of fibreglass?
What model and year is your car?
Is the damage significant considering your cars age/value?
Are you feeling generous and willing to forget about the whole thing?
Or willing to forget about it all for a sweetner from the Robin RK of say £100?0 -
I don't care if you guys don't find it funny, but I challenge anyone of you to witness that, and I don't mean the damage to the OP's car, without stiffling a chuckle.
Untill today I never realised that there where actually a few idiots that would mimic the dross that top gear churns out, the op has my sympathy as expressed before the onslaught, but I retain the right to keep laughing, it is my route through lifes hard times. I think I pointed out who was to blame?
And op, if you want a deeper take on this spelling out, do you think the damage to your car was worse than that to the Robin??, he can probably still smile, he was insured.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Yes, but if the car was rolled away from OP car then logically the owner of the robin came back to find his robin destroyed, and either called for help or rolled it back himself, anyway, when returned up right it has possibly crashed against OP car and then the robin has been driven away.atrixblue.-MFR-. wrote: »you have his details now OP, i would still report it to the police as its still damaged caused by vandals, even if its not directly aimed at your car, its still damage caused by vandals.
Not if Wig's scenario is correct. The damage to the OP's car would be down to the owner of the Plastic Pig.0 -

they suggested phoning the police to report it so i could get his contact details and follow it up that way, but I'm concerned that as I dont know exactly when it happened they will try to deny any liability???
Sorry OP, just re-read that bit, your insurer is right in sorts, it would be a non fault claim if they helped you to claim. But once they recover the damages from the Robin your no claims will return to where you were before, but there will be increased premium at renewal.
This actually proves that what I said is correct, that claiming directly yourself off of the Robin's insurers will not affect your premiums or your no claims because that is what your insurer told you to do in order to keep your insurance "clean".0
