    Welcome to MSE.

There is an existing thread which I think you will find very useful. It's the very first one in this forum. Go back to the page 1 of this forum and you'l see it - "Everything & anything in New York".

Along with the word rip off i think some other words should join the banned list they are:

    cheap
    budget
    reasonable

unless the posters defines what the above means, for example my version of budget is probably miles apart from other peoples

true about the cheap thing phatbear.

Although, if you are looking for something which is value for money rather than plush I would suggest taking a look at

    pod hotel
    radio city apartments

I stopped in the Pod Hotel about a year ago. The room was about the size of a wardrobe but fine if you just want to crash after a long day (and night) out on the town, Location is pretty good and the hotel is very friendly - they were having a free drinks reception when I arrived.
  • Hi, We went to New York for 6 days 17th December, booked through FlightLine in Leeds. We stayed in the New Yorker hotel, 34th and 8th. A great location - a couple of blocks from the Empire State and Macey's and right next to a couple of different subway stations. As metioned before, everybody's idea of 'budget' varies. However, the New Yorker was really clean and nice, rooms small but adequate, had a good gym (important for me) had a breakfast diner Tick Tock attached which was great (stupid large American portions) and also Coopers Tavern attached for night dining (didn't visit) and overall I would recommend. Check it out on traveladvisor.com and if you like the sound of it, see what deals you can come up with.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Andy

Thanks everyone for your comments, and bcl, thanks for the welcome.
The budget is about $100 per night or a bit more.
Bids up to $100 on priceline weren't accepted. Could you recommend an area and hotel class to choose on priceline which is likely to give a decent hotel.
Or, could you recommend some nice B&B, guest house or hostels in this price range.

When you you planning on travleling?

To know your budget and what we can find we need dates and how many people are travelling and what time of accomodation you are looking for, is it for a couple, or two friends etc...

We got the Westin in Jersey City for £55 or something like that per night on Priceline. It was right beside the path station, so you could be in NY in 10 or 15 mins (at macy's).

I know it isn't quite NY, but it's a really nice hotel with simple transportation to NY (24 hour I think - look up PATH train), so just thought I would mention.
