Their own brand cloudy lemonade used to be about 46p. Over Christmas it was on special offer of 2 bottles for £1.50.

My DD told me today that the OJ which has been 57p per litre has gone up to 64 this week and lots of things have gone up not only by the od one or two pennies but by 5 & 10 p at a time .I am glad I am staying out of the big stores this month and only 'shopping 'from my cupboards and fridge/freezer.

I noticed the same thing earlier when I looked online. OJ used to be 56p and is now 62p:eek: There seemed to be loads of branded offers so perhaps the value/discounter prices are being hiked to allow for these?

Discounter Lemonade used to be 26p for two litres but is now 32p but says "down from 36p" (where's the roll eyes smilie!)

We already buy predominantly value/discounter products and very little processed food so making savings is going to be tricky.

It's just occurred to me that I think OJ is subject to VAT which may make some difference but not that much!

I have posted about this before but the last thing people will cut(even in a recession) is food. Tesco could ratchet up prices through the stratosphere and shoppers will still continue to buy huge amounts of food. Instead of using this as an opportunity to cut the fat, people will first cut spending on everything else....and the supermarkets know it.

The price of tinned fruit is also on the rise.

A couple of months before Christmas I was buying value tinned peaches at 24p, but they are now 39p.

We like them as an alternative to fresh fruit and they are always good for the store cupboard.
  • I noticed this in Tesco before Christmas, the mutli buys where more than the prices for single tiems had been a few weeks previously.
I would like ot argue that, although the prices are better in Asda, the quality is often very poor and the staff in ours are very hit and miss.
I am finding that Sainsbury's is good in its basic range and their offers are okay atm, but you cannot beat aldi for veg and pop and frozen pizzas and veg. All are better than Morrisons which I find to be an offensive supermarket.

The fruit and veg in the ASDA stores near here (I've been to 2) is shocking, pretty much mouldy when you get it home. The fruit and veg in tesco however is much better.

  • Did you know that when Tesco hold a promotion of say buy one get one free, its actually not them offering it, its the manufacturer who HAS to hold this offer. If they do not do as they are told regarding pricing, packet sizes and promotional offers they lose their trade with TESCO.
Tesco are not making this offer to you, its the manufacturer who is potentially losing money.

IMO if you don't use Tesco club card points to the max then avoid Tesco. Simples.
  • The thing is it's not just the VAT rise that is adding to the prices on the shelves. Fuel price increases and other factors are contributing as well.
