Which one & why ? HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Trying to make up my mind between these 2 phones, was also thinking of the HTC HD2 but not certain about WM6.5 OS . So which would you choose between the 2 & why ? Will be buying the phone only unless I can find a cheaper PAYG deal .
Any advice appreciated

You can put Android on the HD2 easily, and it even outperforms some top of the range Android phones, despite it running Android off the SD card.
Personally I'd go for the Desire out of the 2 - I have friends with Samsungs, and they have had various hardware problems in the past. Also, I think the Desire looks a little nicer than the Samsung, but obviously that's only my opinion. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

I made that decision a few weeks before Christmas and went for the HTC Desire. Based on specs & preformance I think it's pretty much a coin toss (although it'll depend who you ask!), but I based my decesion on past experience.
I was an early adaptor for Android, I got the original Samsung Galaxy, paying a premium for it (£100 up front on a £35 a month, 18 month contract), the hardware its self is fine, in theory it's a great phone, but Samsung really released it to test the waters and pretty much abandoned it a few months after it was released in favour of the Galaxy S so I was left with a phone that I pretty much had to rely on 3rd party firmware updates for to get any decent use from.0 -
Thanks for the answers but what are the hardware problems ? Or am I better looking at something else/what else is comparable or better ?0

If you are paying up-front for a PAYG smartphone then save yourself some pennies and get the Orange San Francisco. It can be obtained for £99.99 or less (including £10 Orange airtime credit), can be unlocked for free easily and does everything my HTC Desire does for a fraction of the price!0

Dont know what hardware problems relate to SGS nor HTC Desire all i can say is no phone is perfect .
Top 3 smartphones are IPhone4 HTC Desire SGS you really have to handle each one research each one .
Out of the three may research and using phones in store moved the buy from IPhone to SGS and i am not disappoint with my choice . But i would have been happy with any of the three .

Stay away from the HTC desire. I've had the phone since August. I have had my phone replaced 3 times so far because each one has developed a fault whereby the phone restarts itself whenever it likes. It gets to the point where the phone wont even turn on at all.
Its an ongoing issue with the handset. I googled it and thousands of people are having the same issue.0 -
I've had both, and would have to give the slight edge to the Desire due to HTC's Sense, though I preferred the aesthetics and feel of the SGS.
Didn't find much in it in respect of signal, battery etc, just Sense would give it the edge for me.0 -

The problem with that is you don't hear from the million others who aren't having issues with it. While no phone is perfect and they all have their flaws I wouldn't say the HTC Desire is any worse than any other phone, while I've only had mine for a month, I know others who have had them for ages and never had any issues.0 -
Had the on/off problem with my step daughters Desire. Cured it by wiping Android and re-installing from scratch.
We are now on the 3rd Desire, as the first 2 were faulty out of the box and wouldn't hold a charge. The charger and the battery/phone got so hot you couldn't hold it with the first 2.0
