I'm almost scared to leave the house this week as I have a parcel due. It's taken 4 days for a Brabantia bin to get from the West Midlands (3rd Jan) to Belfast (7th Jan) and it was originally due for delivery on Wednesday 5th.

I dread to think how long it will take to get 15 miles down the road to us but a parcel that size won't get left on the doorstep and most of the neighbours work so knowing my luck it will get delivered the very day I'm out!!

My parcel was sent to me (also Belfast!) on the 4th with "Next Day delivery" and so should have been here on the 5th, or at the very least the 6th. The website didn't update to "ready for delivery" till Saturday morning (8th!). I just called again and the guy said the depot will "try to deliver withing the next 2 days" and all I can do is wait for the website to say "loaded onto van".

Unbelievable. I'm fuming! The irony is, I ordered the same item from the same company 2 days after this one (6th), and that got delivered to me on saturday morning (8th) by Royal Mail.
  • once i know a company uses citylink or DHL i stop using that company. so much trouble in the past I'd rather pay a few pound more from somewhere else.

I have stopped using companies who use City Link where I know they are the carrier. Had a package before xmas where we missed the delivery, unable to re-arrange by phone as not taking calls (due to volues) and the web site would not take the number on the card to do it that way either. To collect from the depot means a 40 mile round trip as local one has disappeared.

Luckily its not affected my shopping habits too much, Amazon thankfully dont seem to use them on any despatches ive had over the years and they are my most frequent choice of company.
  • I'm having the same probs with Citylink.

I got a sorry we missed you card on 31/12/10 the driver didn't even put a consignment number on it so we couldn;t rearrange for a date we'd be in.
Got another card 4/1/11 on this one the consignment number was so poorly written we couldn't figure it out.

On 8/1/11 I made to 40 mile round trip to Preston depot. The staff member worked out the number and looked it up, for it to say "L/Safe Porch" 5/01/11. Great WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A PORCH!!!

    The system also said
    23/12/10 - card was left
    24/12/10 - card was left
    29/12/10 - card was left
31/12/10 - card was left (I actually got this one no consigment number on it)
4/1/11 - Card was left (I got this one too)
    5/1/11 - L/Safe: PORCH. at a time when I was actually home...

What a crock of crap! Even if we had a porch why attempt delivery 5 times before leaving "safe". It smacks of falsifying information simple as.

I rang and spoke to someone at 8:20am today - never rang back
I rang and spoke to someone at 13:20 today - never rang back
I tried all 3 numbers on the website all "experiencing high call volume"
Tried a saynoto0870, answer machine says the depot is currently closed, and is open between 8am and 8pm monday to friday Blah blah !!!!!! it's only HALF PAST SIX!

I filled in the online form to complain - twice - I haven';t even got the confirmation email even though it says on the page that it was successfully submitted.

well I have to join in here
Just remembered i had an Amazon order outstanding. Nothing important, just some baby wipes
    order due 31/12/10
    checked the tracking on Amazon
delivery attempted 4/1/11 (I was off work that day and home all day doing uni work)
onto citylink and it stated delivery attempted on the 4th and that they would retry on the 5th
well I have no cards left.
we are a main door in a modern area.so its all accessible and sign posted
according to citylink i have till Tuesday to collect
Im working Monday and have Uni Tuesday
Making a 55 mile round trip would negate any savings I made on Amazon
I know problems happen but I'll be cancelling the subscription i made on Amazon. Its pointless as I cant(wont!) collect from citylink and we havnet had any delivery attempts

emailed amazon to request a refund when the item was returned to them
    canceled my subscription
came home later and the delivery had been made?
so on the last day it was available for collection its out on delivery?
so what would have happened if i went 50 odd miles ot collect?

a not unheard of story with courier companies, hence why amazon are returning to Royal Mail.

Unlike Royal Mail these competitors are not regulated so they can deliver when they feel like it, dump parcels on doorsteps and make the public do 50 mile round trips to collect their stuff.

If RM is privatised the same will happen and the service will only get worse.

  • Finally got my parcel after stupid City Link sent it back to the company without even trying to deliver to me again. It was sent back out and I now have it. Now waiting for something from DHL so that should be fun too as had many problems with them over the years as well

Remember my parcel that was apparently left safe in the porch on 5/1/11, at our house - which doesn't have a porch.

After submitting a formal complaint via their head office and the depot. I had the driver turn up on the doorstep about 15 mins ago while I was on the phone to onthebeach (trying to arrange a refund for something else after being on hold for god knows how long) saying

"I delivered your parcel here last week"

    We haven't received anything

"I give it to your mum? 50's? with white hair?"

My mum doesn't live here, theres me and other half only.
(my mum, is blonde and lives 2000 miles away and would be fuming if someone thought she was in her 50's)

"I definitely deliver parcel, here. I tried four times to deliver"

but there was nobody to deliver it to on that day, can you wait a few mins, just finishing a call.

3 mins later - as I finish the call - gone, I even ran after the van :rotfl: no luck!

Rang preston to let them know, I had intended to speak to him as soon as the call was finish and also queried why he's now saying he gave it to a person and not "left safe in porch". No satisfactory answer other than "I'll speak to him when he comes back" !!!!!! this is stupid.

I would like to add some praise on here as a contrast to everyone else's experience :D

Our local City Link driver is an absolute star!! He is always happy and always early. He even beeps and waves if he sees me walking to work. The local depot is Hemel Hempstead which was damaged during the Buncefield explosion about 5 yrs ago and they were only a couple of days late with parcels even after that!!

On the other hand, when 'Happy City Link Man' (our nickname for him) is away on holidays it is a different matter altogether!! Late deliveries, invisible cards, you know the drill.

Surely our Happy City Link Man can't be the only one???
  • It may not surprise you that I haven't heard back from citylink - again.
