I was out in Oxford on Book night and did not get a single new book to read:( Oh well:D I'll try and get involved with giving them out if they do it again.
The TV programmes to accompany Book Night were a bit dire though weren't they? Some female comedian sneering at people who like Lee Childs and Sophie Kinsella. I thought that was rather snobbish. And why wasn't the fantasy/sci-fi genre represented at all? Everytime the BBC has a public poll to find the best loved book 'Lord of the Rings' comes out on top. They could have included someone like Terry Pratchett in their list.0 -
Well my books have all gone off to Macmillan Courtyard Centre this morning. I've kept half a dozen back to pass on to family. I attended my local World Book Night on Saturday & managed to get a free book.0

Just given one away to one of my local library staff who said all 4 of their boxes were picked up and given out including one person who gave them out outside the library. I told them the things i'd read on the net about tales of it all going wrong etc including someone who had refused to take a free book of the one I had been allocated(which is the issue I had)...but I'd love to do it again. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

When I applied to be a giver, I said I wanted to give books to mums with young children, to allow them some "me" time, curled up with a coffee and a good book. Has been an absolute pleasure giving out the books. Have some still to take to toddler group. Would love to be a part of this again next year!
Please, pretty please!:D

We took some secondary school children down to the local livestock market and gave away 48 copies of Northern Lights to the shoppers and farmers. The kids had a great time; books very well received indeed, and they were complimented on the way they presented themselves and explained their enthusiasm for the book they were passing on.. The only slight 'bilp' (ahem) was that I hadn't initially realised WBN was a Saturday, as market day is a Thursday. By the time I realised that what I'd set up (booked a stall, got kids involved & sent letters home) was not suuposed to happen ahead of the night, it was too late. I emailed and phoned several times but didn't ever get a reply. No-one arrested us, but of course I got ID numbers far too late to be able to put them in, even if I'd known they were coming.
All these are just teething problems - if it runs again next year, I'll know better how to organise it - and I'd definitely do it again! It was a great experience for our students, and gave them a chance to promote reading in a positive and fun way to a wider audience. Yaaay WBN (though if they do manage to fit it in with World Book Day it'd make things a lot easier for me!!!)Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
