We just discovererd this apparent bargain too - the price for the router alone in Argos is £69.99 and the USB network adaptor is £39.99 - double checked they are the same model numbers.
Looks too good to be true - off to buy ours in the morning - reserved them online from PC World where they promise to honour the online price!0 -
PC World have run promos on many routers/cards in the past - unlikely to be a catch.0

don't you need a 125 enabled network wireless card for the laptop to take advantage of the increased speed? Most will only run at 54mbps max afaik...Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.
Primum non noce!0 -
I just got them so its a good deal, thanks to all0

Rustbucket router is a slower model i.e 54 mbps not the 125 mbps of the op's
You wouldn't notice much difference in surfing, but would if sharing files on your network. It's also worth checking it supports the newer 11g standard0 -
They had a quality mimo router reduced to £50 the other day in PC World0

I am a bit confused. Why are there 2 boxes?
I am interested in once to go with my ntl cable modem. Would like to be able to use a laptop downstairs away from the router.
Is the other box the usb adaptor or is it a reciever or summat?0 -
Rustbucket wrote:The unit I got (Model numer WRT54GS v5.1) is also able to be flashed to use Linux firmware enabling all sorts of wonderful controls normally only available on VERY expensive routers. Any flashing is at your own risk though. I absolve myself completely. Be careful.
Unfortunately the v5 and v6 hardware have less flash ram than previous models and therefore can only take the micro edition of dd-wrt and so most nice tools aren't available. However it is supposed to be more stable than the stock firmware although linksys have released a new version at the start of oct which is supposed to fix most issues.

The one for dsl (bt) is the WAG54GS at £54.99
For my dad I got the WAG54G with matching PCMCIA card from Staples for £39.99 - just about to put the PCMCIA card on ebay so should get about a tenner back. This works for ADSL folk.
I also have the deal mentioned here for my own cable connection. I bought it from PC World at £49.99 a few months ago - this is a very good deal.
I am considering flashing my firmware to an alternative - but be warned this is not for most people - only for techy geeks. And this version of the model (v5.1 onwards) are not as good for flashing with alternative firmware.Cheers,
