how does he earn all his dough ?

he's not exactly been a hit factory over the years has he !!

Song writing is where the money is at, if you wrote it royalties are good.

Gerry Rafferty was said to be raking in £80K PA on Baker Street in royalties.

Not sure if he has written many regular air played songs? not really listened to the bloke TBH, never my scene.

The thing is, it is quite hard to be a socialist in isolation. I consider myself a socialist but I don't begrudge people who have earned their money fairly and honestly from spending it however they want.

I can't see the attraction with huge houses like that though, and if I came into a large amount of money I would probably continue to live in a modest property (albeit in a nicer area than where I live now). I wouldn't feel right employing cleaners and the like and a house like that would take a lot of looking after.

The only scenario in which I can imagine buying a huge house would be so I could fill it with rescued animals!

Whats the problem? By having a big house he must be paying plenty of tax.

Stamp duty, VAT on the legal fees, high band Council Tax, VAT on the heating bills, insurance premium tax, VAT on agents fees when he comes to sell it - so it's not all bad.

I never really ''get this''. I see it as the most direct way to transfer wealth if you are an earner....to employ people. It seems far less ''socialist''to sit on the money and far better to share the wealth and offer employment.

Its tightbottomed capitalists like me who struggle doing all the cleaning themselves I think allowing me more disposable cash, when if I employed I'd have less, but the person looking for a few hours a week would have more...and need less top up from the state pot...giving us all a bit more.

I don't get looking down on cleaning as something ''below'' one as a profession either...if its good enough to do for myself or for other people its good enough a service to swap for money.
