Knowing someone who gets about £40k royalties (writing & performing) per year from one song, I'd estimate that Bragg gets at least £20k per year from A New England alone - and will probably do so for the next 25 years until its out of copyright.

Which would be largely composed of royalties paid by the BBC, endlessly plugging his tedious polemical dross. Which rather proves my point, doesn't it?

And thanks - but when I want incisive political comment, the first place I turn is not to a bunch of 'artistes', few of whom are noted for their intellectual prowess.

Yet somehow manages to tour the USA year almost every year.

Billy Bragg - doing his bit for British exports.

On the patriotism front how did we end up with a Turkish roman soldier as our patron saint? at least Paddy had a connection to Ireland (even though he was Welsh).

Indeed. They have idiots, too. It's not just a British thing.

Now, to get back to the way the BBC subsidises young Master Bragg's income...

Apparently he did visit although I doubt his papers were up to scratch.

The patron saint of England was an illegal immigrant!

Does Australia even have a patron saint?

ETA: It seems we get The Big One, Mary herself.

Very pleased. I bet they're looking forward to the return visit! Just what they need to set themselves up for a home and away vs Barca.
