It's not a criticism, even Marxists have the right to try to get rich IMO.

I thought Marxism said something about "each according the their NEED". May be wrong though.

That was Lenin I think. I think that was also a misquote.

The usual quote is something like, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need". I believe the accurate version is, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his work".

I've got to be honest here. I don't begrudge him the money - he's a musician and nobody is forced to buy his records or go and see him play live. His early albums used to have do not pay more than £x.99 on them. IIRC it was £2.99 for Life's a Riot and £3.99 for the next one which I think was longer. I don't begrudge him the house either, he's made his money honestly, or so it seems at least.

I wasn't aware that Bragg has ever sold many records. Surely the bulk of his income must be from the BBC licence fee? He seems to be the rent-a-gob du jour on Radio 4.

    :rotfl:

The Badger shoe horning the "Leftie " BBC into every subject.

I'm sure Billy's doing fine with his royalties from a pretty extensive back catalogue.

And here's Blueboy defending the Left's subsidy machine for all its clapped-out old relics - Bragg, Red Ken, Kinnochio, Benn - never off the air.

As for Bragg's 'extensive back catalogue', clue: it's not how many albums you put out. You have to sell some to make any money.

I take it you have a copy of his royalty statement? he must have something going as he seems to be quite active in the piracy/social network debate :)

Nice try. B-BBC is apparently independent. One of its leading lights (Robin Horbury) is even a former BBC journalist gone to the good.

It's uncomfortable reading for the Lefty chattering classes, of course.

Knowing someone who gets about £40k royalties (writing & performing) per year from one song, I'd estimate that Bragg gets at least £20k per year from A New England alone - and will probably do so for the next 25 years until its out of copyright.

It must grieve the looney right that the majority of writers, composers, musicians and artists are left of centre or liberal.

Do the looney right have to listen to Phil Collins, Tony Hadley and Geri Halliwell ? You could add Eric Clapton is we extend the definition to moronic racist outbursts. Must make for great parties.
