Replacing a wishbone

Asking this question for a friend (a female) .

How much would be an average price to have a front wishbone replaced on her car ? Its a peugeot 406 year 2001.

She asked a mechanic in a small but reputable garage for a quote and he has said £40 for the part and £30 for labour. Does this sound about right ?

Thanks

Sounds more than fair to me!
  • buying the wish bone herself in a small motor factors maybe a 5-6 quid cheaper, but the labour is more than fair.

Sounds way too cheap to me..hopefully he wont rip her off/do a crap job.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Thats cheap. The actual part costs about 25quid per wishbone - you get the wishbone with all the bushes in it and the ball joint as a kit. Ive done them on several cars, incl a peugeot.

It is a straight forward job, and id say you could do it in 45minutes providing you dont hit any problems, but id expect to take a good hour to do one side. Garages would charge 50quid an hour plus VAT, so if its only costing £30 then thats a bargain!
  • Go for it! That's a very good price.

  • Ok , thanks to everyone who took the time to reply.

My friend has just been on the phone to me . She left her car in at 7.30am this morning and has just been to pick it up , the repair has been done , car is going a treat and she happily paid the £70.

However , although the mechanic told her yesterday that the car needed a new drivers side wishbone , when she picked it up today and read the receipt it says he fitted a new front suspension arm....

Is this the same thing but just called a different name ? Sorry :o
