Old problem with car reappeared

Just looking for a little bit of advice on what to do really.

About 18 months ago my car started acting stranging - randomly stalling when I slowed down and changed gears, car surges and it doesn't accelerate as it should. I would put my foot down and I could feel the power was being supressed then suddenly it would accelerate properly.

Anyway, I took my car to two garages but they couldn't find the fault so after a bit of googling I found out it could be the Mass Flow Sensor so I went to a different garage and got them to replace this part and it was fixed.

But now this problem has re-emerged and I am wondering should the part have lasted longer than this? I have seen on the internet guides to cleaning this part but I don't think I should be fiddling around with it and when I asked the garage they told me they can't.

Should I just get the garage to re place it again?

is it injection or carb ( i imaging its injection if it has a mass air flow meter)

a mass airflow meter should last a fair while unless they got a cheap chinese copy of a bosh part for example as these are well known for being poop

it should get dirty or need cleaning really its normally just either a hot wire or a film made from platinum i think as the air passes over it it cools down and the resistance changes and it tells the ECU what to do with the fuel

    what make car is it

I've had the car for nearly 2 years it was serviced when I got it then a year later, so will be due another service in a few months. I am not sure if it is injection - it is a 1996 ford fiesta 1.3.
  • the reason i asked is my carbed car does a similar thing in this weather and dampness where the carb ices up and it starvees it of fuel

it has to be a precise temperature and humidity but i doubt a 96 fiesta would be a carb

I just found the reciept it was done on 21st July 2009 and they changed "air flow meter" and "idle air control valve" for £257. So hoping it doesn't cost this much again. It is very frustrating, although it is drivable I hate driving it like this and I don't think it's doing the car much good to be stalling at every set of lights/roundabouts and it seems to be using up more fuel so I am not driving it til I have it fixed.

I have done around 15k miles since then so maybe it does need replacing?
